That is VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY bad. The 460 does not come with a recovery disk, just a recovery partition, and you just lost yourself that by reformating, that may not be a big deal to you until you realize that sony uses custom software to control the shortcut keys (you cant even use the volume shortcut keys without it), and as far as i know, have not looked to much into there website, but i don't think it is online.

your are going to have to buy new disks (1DVD + 1CD) unless the software is somewhere on there website, goodluck and sorry.

if you are LUCKY in the way your formatted, hit f8 or was it f10 when you reboot your computer. if you get a restore menu, you're in luck. do the restore. then backup your computer using the vaio backup.

Problem fixed..
damn I never knew I had to follow instruction on sony website. On desktop I could install whatever I want w/o listening to instruction

could you tell me how did you solved this proble? I just got my s460 today, original OS, but volume and brightness shortcut keys are not working, thx!

If they are not working out of the box i would return for another one just in case the system is not working perfectly. A new 460 should have shortkeys that perform perfectly and can be customized in the Vaio control panel.

If the system is used then i suggest installing the Sony notebook utilities that can be downloaded from the Sony eSupport site. This program will allow user to use the fn shortkeys as well as assign the s1 and s2 keys.
