Inspiron 9300 with 1920 x 1080 DVI output

I need a notebook PC that can drive an external monitor via DVI at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Other than an Apple Powerbook G4 (which is actually not a bad option b/c the 15" at 5.6 lbs would fit my needs, but I think is more money), it looks like the Inspiron 9300 is my only other option. As a result, I need to confirm if in fact the minimum configuration $999 Inspiron 9300 will do an external monitor via DVI @ 1920 x 1080 or not, and if not can I upgrade it somehow to do so?

I assume an upgrade of some combination of RAM, Video Card and CPU will also give me full motion 1920 x 1080 video playback via the DVI to an external monitor as well, correct? And if so, what specifically would need to be upgraded to do so?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I am pretty sure that if the i9300 supports that resolution, that it can be used reguardless of the video card inside it. Using DVI, it doesn't even matter which LCD you choose for the system either.

I beleive you can use that resolution.

EDIT: Unless you're gaming, the only real upgrade you'll need for better performance is a bit of memory, especially need to upgrade from the stock amount.

Thanks for the info. I plan to upgrade RAM to 512MB and the video card to the 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X300. No need to upgrade the built-in LCD resolution as it is external monitor hi-res 1920 x 1080 support that I need.

My only other question is if I will be able to ply at 1920 x 1080 Windows Media HD Video with the entry level Inspiron 9300 Intel Pentium M730 at 1.6GHz or will the CPU need upgrading as well?

Thanks!

You may experiance dropped frames using software decoding. I lowered the multiplier on mine to figure out at what point the cpu usage spikes to 100% and it hit it at 1.6. 1.5ghz was dropping frames consistantly. At 1.6 it ran fine but there were a few dropped frames.

Hi!

I am running my 9300 with the ati x300 128 mb on the vga out at 1920x1080 50hz so if that works, dvi also does. The guys at Entech helped me out so that the ati x300 is 100% powerstrip supported.
