Yes it is. AlienAdrenaline is powerstrip. It's all the same the only thing different is that it's covered by the warranty.

Glad i did not buy it then even if it is under the warranty.

Braingoo...don't you understand that if you overclock your GPU and blow up your video card, that Alienware will NOT warranty it? The warranty does NOT cover issues concerning overclocking parts UNLESS you purchased Adrenaline. Oh well...

Let's say this....you download and run Powerstrip, overclocking your video card. It fries your card. You then uninstall Powerstrip prior to sending your laptop back....and clear the registry of it.

No way they'll know....

How about an excuse for burning the card. They could still find it.

Yes I under stand!

Iunderstand perfectly I just overclocked once to see waht preformence i could get i realy don't want to leav it that way for one and I'm just glad i did not pay for a utility that i could get for free I understnd about the warranty i was just experimenting with the overclocking. Ran great on those settings anyway but really what are 300 extra points on a benchmark any way nothing to blow up a video card over.

What did you use, Powerstrip? I was thinking about trying it, and overclocking, but in your opinion, before I do so, is it REALLY worth it?

It all depends!

If you do overclock with power stip are you going to blowup your video card? If you know what you are doing and watch how much you overclock you should be fine however given the off chance something does happen power stip is not coverd under the warrenty like the alien adrenaine is. My advice is try it see what you get if you decide that it works better for you overclocked and you would rather have it that way than the default settings then by all means leave it that way you will probably be fine. However the added preformance you get out of it will probably be vary little at least not enought to notice Mine changed about 300 points. I decided that the loss of 300 points and not losing the warranty on the vid card was better than taking the risk. What i ment to say before if all i get is 300 points out of over clocking Im gald i did not pay the extra money for it glad i could test it out on my own. ( I do wonder however if i do want to over clock in the future if i can get the alien adrenaline seperate or is it an at order only thing!)

You CANNOT buy Adrenaline once you've got your laptop. Once it's shipped to you, you're on your own.

And yes, I noticed a huge difference in playing Unreal II on my desktop by using Powerstrip...it is now installed on every machine on my network.

Power strip os a great utility in fact the best I have used to overclock any vid card I have had quite a few desktops and have overclocked them with no trouble at all but I also had great airflow going through the case and had a good idea of where my tempuarute limits where with the laptop its a little different not so sure I want to overclock within such a compact enviroment.

BTW any body know of any utilitys that will monitor temp on a laptop. that would help out greatly. Maybe with a nice cooling pad I would feel safer overclocking without the warranty.

Brain,
In reality, your machine will just lock up before you do any real damage. You should be fine. Just bump up your speeds my 10-15mhz at a time and try games until you get locked screens. Then back off by 10 or so mhz and you should be ok.

It just seemed like a good value to me for $30 to get Powerstrip and the warranty :-]

I'm not sure about monitoring temps...check www.pcworld.com/downloads They have ubbers of good stuff there...and its FREE!

I have never over clocked on a laptop before and was a littel usure about it I think I may invest in a good laptop cooler and give it another try later on. Thanks for all the great information.

I thought I'd throw in my info and specs for comparison sake. Finally got around to downloading 3dmark03 and running some tests. Got the following score with 8X enabled and 7.95 drivers.

Score: 2764

Not bad for my system considering I only have 512mb of ram. I have adrenaline but I haven't tried it yet. Will keep you posted.

Is it me or am I the only person that is really disappointed at a score of 2500. Need I point out that the new alienware desktop is getting way over 6000???? the only difference is the graphics card and the processor... These are massive differences either.
Just did my benchmark...2388 with no tweaking.

Does anyone have a key for 3dmark 2003?
