Well, if you want the fastest raw gaming performance, then the Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 Ultra 256MB GDDR3 would be your choice.

If you want a mobile workstation environment and want the premium workstation style graphics card with optimized OpenGL support, then the Nvidia Quadro FX Go 1400 256MB GDDR3 would be your choice. Also, this card plays games just fine since it is the equivalent of the Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 256MB GDDR3 that Sager also sells on this model.

Also, if you want excellent performance, but just do not want to pay as much for the 2 cards above, you can save and get the ATI Mobility Radeon X800 256MB GDDR3 or the Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 256MB GDDR3 (Non-Ultra). These cards are pretty much equivalent in performance, with the GeForce Go 6800 still being preferred by most.

Hope this helps.

does the QuadroFX really perform as well in games? It might be worth spending the extra cash for the boost in performance to my 3D animation work.

The Quadro does not perfom as well in games as the 6800 Ultra does, it performed on par with the normal 6800.

if you do 3d animation work it would be just great for you since it will out perform the 6800ultra on that basis, and the 6800 is a pretty good card already =D

The current quadro available for the 9880 will not outperform the Ultra. The advantage to a quadro card is the drivers. They are geared more towards 3d animation and windows graphics in general insteadof gaming. What you will get is a more stable system in Maya/3dsmax etc then you would with a ultra.

Drivers are a big difference, but there are hardware level differences as well. Here is a link straight from NVidia's site that outlines some of those differences between the Quadro and GeForce hardware lines.

Hmm on par with the normal 6800 might be a worthwhile tradeoff. Decisions decisions.
