Unlocking Bluetooth abilities on cell phone?

Okay then, I recently got a new Motorola V710 phone from Verizon. However, upon getting the phone, I realized that Verizon has disabled most ablilites of BT devices so as to make more money from the Get-it-Now! service. Currently it appears that the BT only supports it as a modem, the headset, and sync with the Motorola software. It doesn't support file tranfer whether it be: pic, video, or music.

What I'm wondering is if there is a way to enable the other BT features, OBEX (?), without having to resort to 'hacks' such as what happens in the following link?

I mainly want the ability to transfer files, the other stuff is not as important to me now. The hardware is there, it's just that the software doesn't allow it at this point.

everything I've read says it isn't going to happen, even with hackers help.

i actually was testing this phone the other day (work for motorola). And you are sure they disabled sending of pictures via BT? This is one of their main features. I was unaware that the customer-release version did not allow BT file sending (I am only familiar of sending pictures, but am sure other abilities exist). If it is in fact disabled, I have no idea if it is possible to actually enable it after it has left the factory.

Yeah, they disabled BT file sharing. Hackers have been able to enable this to a computer, but not to another phone. That was my main interest in this phone was to be able to use BT to transfer pics to my computer until I got the memory card.

I have heard that the European and Non-Verizon phones may be able to do this, but the agreement between M. and VZW had them disable this feature.

The reason is because Verizon doesn't want you using it to connect to the computer to download things you would normally have to purchase from them. The only way you can do this is to unlock the phone, but then you wouldn't be able to use it as a phone anymore. Plus, its very risky and can destroy the phone.

I actually have Verizon Wireless, but I was reading about them for a while. But I didn't really understand how expensive it was until I checked their ringtones store... $2.50 just to get access to the "stores," and then money for every kilobyte sent. What a ripoff!
