uh... anyone know how the hell they're able to get dual channel using the SIS 648FX chipset???

cuz on their site, it's still listing the MOBO using 648FX... the newer SIS supports dual channel --- but as far as i know, the 648FX does NOT support dual channel.

did u even read the link u sent?

if u did, does it or does it not support dual channel?

according to all docs/reviews on the web, the 648FX does NOT support dual channel --- but apparently AW claims it does. is there something fishy going on?

I posted about this in another thread as I had the same question. I have noticed a lot of Ram here lately is calling itself Dual Chanel which as far as I can tell is marketing poo poo.

here is a link to memopry calling itself dual chanel

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=85015-15

My guess is that someone at Alienware is just listed the marketing spec and they don't really have it. There is an SIS chipset with dual chanel that just came out but I don't think they are using it.

it's calling itself dual channel cuz they come in pairs, and have been "certified" to work in dual channel chipsets like the i865. just marketing mumbo jumbo.

if you used them in single sticks, it ain't dual channel.

Man the Alienware Marketing people don't learn do they?

mmm Magnesium Alloy Chassis take 2

The statement Features Dual-Channel PC-3200 DDR400 is so misleading and one suspects it is worded that way to be so.

In the UK we have a body called The Office Of Fair Trading

http://www.oft.gov.uk/Consumer/Misle...ts/default.htm

who basically investigate complaints from consumers on blatantly misleading advertising, as such Alienware would never get away with the dual channel statement in the UK. Do you have a similar body in the USA?

It seems a shame: the Alienware 51M on the whole is a good product. It's a shame its PR department feels the need to drop to this level. If they feel not having a Dual Channel set up is hurting sales they should be pushing any information that proves otherwise or turn to R+D and say use the newer Dual Channel DDR chipset. They should never use underhanded Verging on illegal Marketing tactics like this. One thing is for sure if they continue down the path they are on currently, they will loose a lot of potential customers simply because they can not trust the company to be truthful.

How do you guys and girls feel about this?

hehehe didn't take Alienware long to forget about the Magnesium Chassis mess it made did it

They have lost this customer for starters.

Goodbye Alienware hello Sager

Dual Channel Chipset

Hi Everybody,
The dual channel Sis Chipset is the new 655FX.
Just go to the link in the post above and change the 648FX to 655FX in the URL and it will open to the new specs that clearly state dual channel DDR400 memory and shows twice the memory bandwidth in the specs table.
Maybe AW will change to this newer chipset next year. We will see........

Re: Dual Channel Chipset

yes, we all know that.

our question is HOW is AW getting DUAL CHANNEL on the 648FX? is it even "true" dual channel? cuz that's what they're claiming on their website.

Blue.. they ARENT getting it (unless chipsets HAVE changed). This is not a magical thing... the 648 DOES NOT SUPPORT IT. It is FALSE advertising...just like the custom color chassis...

right, that's my point. either (1) they're flat out lying, or (2) they changed chipsets.

i called AW the other day, and ask them if current owners of the new AW can get dual channel if they stuck two 400mhz dimms in the system, and two tech reps flat out told me NO. they said it's a REVISED motherboard. maybe the mobo specs on their page aren't fully updated to reflect a different chipset? beats me.

cuz advertising something with dual channel which doesn't support dual channel is, well, just false advertising. they have not way of getting around this issue like the MG alloy "chassis" issue if it really was still using 648FX.

It is possible they reworked the mobo. Keep in mind though, they cant just change chipsets. With the move to aDcDDR bus, you need to redesign the board to support the extra channels. It is possible that this whole time with the PC2700 was used to make a 655 board... but why not brag about it if it is true?
I highly doubt that the Area-51m now supports dual channel. Why would they have a special version of the chipset that does? Hypersonic PC sells the same model with PC-3200 ram but they say it does not support dual channel. I think someone at Alienware just goofed, but I guess we will find out.

It is Dual Channel

Hey Folks. I work at Alienware Sales. And I have to let you know that it is Dual Channel memory. The Motherboard supports it. It's a R.2 Mobo.

Any other questions?

So is that why my order detail states AW Saucer Silver blah blah Rev 2.0??? Does that mean since I ordered the PC3200 RAM it will be dual channel???

You better not be pulling our leg??? or I will unleash all the powers of the Sager fanboys who troll these boards to destroy you ...
