No they didnt...

Uniwill designed a new system for OEMs.. you will notice that AW is NOT the only one selling them.

But, that aside, redesging a chip is NOTHING like designing a laptop.. the laptop is much cheaper and more cost effective.

First let me say hi, finally got a way to make an account, i guess thats one plus to school you get an email account.

Anyway if anyone here that bought the as so adverstised dual channal alienware, and are thinking of returning it now that they lied about it, i have a few screenshots that you could use to get around the restocking fee.

It's also fun to type http://www.alienware.com into the google search engine, and then click on their cached version of the site, it says it there also....until they refresh their cache anyway.

Yes, in fact, Dual Channel Support is NOT on the Area-51m. I have confirmed this with AW and am awaiting a response from a manager on what they are going to do for those of us that orded the machines on the notion we were getting DcDDR Ram.

Stay tuned...

Update: Ok, Nelson (sales supevisor) called me today and let me know that they'd be giving me a $250 credit towards my upgrade of RAM to 1024megs. If I opted out of the RAM, they would have given me the $250 as a credit on my AMEX card, but I figure I might as well spend the money. I can't take it with me after all.

I also spoke with him about the rumored rebate on certain colors of laptops due to stock out issues on certain colors. According to him, they are 100% in stock on all screen sizes and colors. This conflicts with other posts here but until I get an email stating otherwise, I think I'll go with Nelson on this one.

I'd say my experience so far with AW has been a good one. What I have to remember is that they quoted me 3-4 weeks on this thing. I have made a total of three upgrades since my initial order last Saturday so that is probably why I'm still in Phase #2 after all of this time. They have called me back everytime they said they would and have been very courteous and professional during any phone or email coorespondences.

I feel good about this company and can clearly see they have some growing to do, but that they honestly WANT to deliver a great product at a reasonable price (check Dell's lately, wow expensive suddenly!) and back it up with excellent customer service. That said, my transaction is not yet complete as my order is still in Miami at this point, but if the laptop shows up in 2-3 weeks and kicks as much butt as people say, I'll consider myself "Abducted!"

Cheers fellas

Hmmm....Craig.....you think I should take a shot getting some $ back from their false advertising? I upgraded my order specifically because they promoted the "NOW WITH DUAL CHANNEL 3200 DDR RAM!".

Alright well i figured i'd try to chip in on it...i told them i upgraded to the pc-3200 for the solre reason of it being dual channel and now that its not i was unhappy. they said they are sorry and refunded me 50 dollars... so every penny counts give it a whirl.

I'd def try to get a few bux back if I was you M42...It was an error due to bad info from their vendor but still, they are responsible for the info on their own website. I feel they handled it well in my case...give it a shot.

Lets be a little realistic now. Everyone knew that the dual channel thing was just a an error in the marketing dept. Honestly, now people are going on a witch hunt here to try to get something for free. Even though its not dual channel it is still pc3200 and that alone is reason enough to get it if you want to take advantage of a P3.2 chip.

Plus the way the Sis648 chipset's low latency single stream organizes and feeds data it's actually not far behind in real world applications.

Dual channel, triple channel...pffft. If that was such a huge factor someone please tell me where Rambus 1066 went?

Any chance that doing this would cause a delay in my order? What did they say when you talked to them? I am probably being a little paranoid here but if its just $50 I would rather not risk it. $250 on the other hand is quite a bit of money so I am not quite sure what to do.
