dual channel on new AW??? - Page 5

I checked just now, and the "dual channel" question is posted twice by "Thor1182" no real answers from AW yet. IN their first post they state that it's a new version MB that has it.

Then when asked again how they got the SIS chipset to support it there is no answer.....

I'm being persistant about it on the forums, but not getting good response

Anyone in Florida...just go to their offices and tell them you work for pcgamer and that you are trying to find the truth about this whole dual channel scandal for the upcoming issue of the mag...

Honestly, if they are advertising it then they must have it! C'mon guys...I think that this whole alien theme has everyone way toooo paranoid! Then again...the truth is out there...

If I'm proven wrong...I'll contact my lawyer and you're all invited to my lovely class action lawsuit!!!

This might mean nothing but at their website on their main page there is a picture of the Area51m that you can click on to configure a laptop. It used to say "The Exclusive New Area-51m" and then in red letters "Now with dual-channel DDR400 Memory". Now it only says "Now with DDR400 memory". Anyway it still says it has dual-channel when you go in to configure one but I thought it was kinda strange that they changed that bit.

That IS interesting. It may be that they picked up on the mistake...

What does Dual FIR mean when talking about Motherboards
post #88 of 112
I believe it means Dual Field Infra Red, means it has 2 infra red sensors. One near the bottom of LCD and one on the side.

Duuuhh I sure didn't think before askng that one thanks

anyone take sceen shots of the page before they changed it? serious this info should be sent to pcgamer editor or some other mag, even as a letter to editor about false advertising, its not right. and they should sent everyone that bought a area51m since they've had that ad up some sort of check even if its just $50.

bastards

I have an email from a sales rep that states that all revision 2 mobo's have dual channel...can we do anything with that???

PS: are we sure that it isn't dual channel now?

no reference now on the site

omg now they took it off the description when you click on the image from the home page, screen before the configurator. looks like its a cover up like roswell (talk about area 51), someone from AW must be reading these forums

how much you want to make a bet if you call them today they will say dual channel what? nope never heard of it. well atleast their willing to correct mistakes even though it takes a bunch of complaining to provide feedback, aw i'll be waiting for my $50 check

Where's Scully and Moulder when we need them?
Maybe the actual boards have already been changed and modified physically to support dual channel and that all we need is a bios update...or maybe its just a bunch of bull and there is not dual channel...but I hope all we need is a flash

Honestly guys, this all sounds like BS and AW made a mistake with their advertising literature. As Divine_Madcat has tried to explain, there is no way that Sis is going to produce a special order for dual channel enabled mobos just for AW. From all the literature I've read on the current Sis mobo AW uses, there is no dual channel support. Unless AW is using the 655 mobo, which it is not, then forget about it.

Uniwill DID get AW their own case design, didnt they? So why are you doubting SIS?

The AW site no longer says dual channel anywhere so I think the issue can be droped they finally realized they were wrong

Because I have never seen a mobo manufacturer put in the time, money and effort to redesign a board for any computer maker. They might do it for a large co. like Dell or Gateway, but Alienware isin't anywhere near big (nor does it sell enough units) enough as those two co's to support the economics of Sis doing something like that. It just doesn't make economic sense for Sis (they wouldn't make enough money to support the engineering, marketing, shipping, etc...) to do this for the limited amount of orders they would get.

I think it is now pretty safe to say that there is no dual-channel. I honestly thought it was a mistake from the beginning, allthough I did begin to have my doubts when AW stated that it is a new revision that supports it.

I called alienware again and this time they said its single channel....wtf...and i know the guy didnt know much cause he said "ummmmmmm" for about 90% of the conversation.
