Several 9300 problems

Okay just typing that it is weird. This text too. This text looks fairly large while in the following picture it is small and ofte to one size.

What i do not understand is how this is. Why won't it stretch? I just got this notebook today and it was fine until i started noticing this. it is at 96 dpi with the regedit provided in the dell general faq.

Also with this notebook the nec dvd burner is going crazy. it is so terribly loud. i did a new firmwire update to it but with no success. i also searched the forums here as well as dell forums and came up with the idea of reinstalling. No such success was met when it was removed and put back.

What do you think i should do for both things?

If this is happening when you're on the internet, go to View>Text Size>Medium. Of course, I'm not understanding the particulars of your problem.

Oh it's on medium already.

This text thing is annoying but i can kinda live with that. What really bugs me is the fileplanet page only taking up half the screen.

I would assume you are used to running at a fairly low resolution (800x600 maybe?)

Many websites are designed to run at a specific resolution and not resize out past that. This helps maintain positions and such. File planet appears to be one of those. It looks the way it does because the 9300 runs at a fairly high res.

I run at 1900 by 1200 which is the highest and the default. I did post the link for the picture which clearly demonstrates this problem with my current set up.

so no one can help me on how fileplanet is all on one side of the screen? It just doesn't happen there as recently i've noticed it's been happening on actiontrip, dell, and others.

As JTOverath explained, websites are often designed to look best in a specific resolution. If fileplanet is designed for 1024x768 (or lower) resolution and you're displaying it full screen at 1920x1200, then of course it's not going to fill the screen. The only thing that would change how this website is displayed would be for them to redesign the site, and I don't think they'll be redesigning it with WUXGA in mind anytime soon.

You might try resizing your browser window to make it more square instead of running it full screen (i.e. leave some blank space on the left & right sides of the browser window). If it really bothers you, then a high resolution like WUXGA is probably not for you.

fileplanet looks the same as it did before its just your running at a much higher resolution than you most likely used to be. Ill take screenshots of two different resolutions when i get home tonight. I don't have time right now to explain it more, so if someone doesnt explain ill go into detail later when i have more time.

Ok thanks.

here is a screenshot of fileplanet on a 1280x1024 screen

and here is one on a 1920x1200 screen

you can see how much smaller the 1920x1200 appears to be because of all the blue space. but if you open both images up to full size you can see that theres actually the same.

Here is a little tid bit from a website that explains resolutions. from this website

Quote:
The image content and text information on your computer monitor is displayed in a pixel matrix that fills your entire monitor screen. Pixels on a computer monitor can be different sizes because computer monitors have user selectable pixel screen resolutions (width and height in pixels)

A computer monitor running 800X600 pixel resolution will display 800 pixels in the width of the monitor and 600 pixels in the height of the computer monitor. Let’s say you have two 17 inch computer monitors showing the same web page on the screen but running at different monitor resolutions. The pixels on the monitor set at lower resolution (800X600 pixel monitor resolution) will be larger than the pixels on the monitor set to higher resolution since there will be only 800 pixels across the 17 inch monitor as opposed to 1024 in that same 17 inch space with 1024X768 pixel monitor resolution.

When you change computer monitor resolutions you DO NOT change the pixel dimensions of the pictures and content on the monitor. Therefore, the monitor running lower resolution has larger pixels and will have larger images and text. It follows that less of that larger text and those larger images will fit on the lower resolution monitor without scrolling. We have only changed the SIZE of the pixels on the monitor. The higher resolution monitor will display more graphical information because of the smaller sized pixels on the monitor. Images viewed on higher resolution monitors will look sharper because the pixels are smaller and closer together so they are less visible as individual 'dots'.
I hope that helps.

Ok great. Thank you. But on the 1280 one i noticed your desktop is not blurry. I assume you are running on a 9300 right? Everytime i lower the resolution from 1920 by 1200 i see bluriness. I hear that is normal but yours is not blurry.
no the 1280 one was taken on my server that has a CRT display so it can display resolutions without being blurry. But yes if i were to switch to a lower resolution on my 9300 it would be blurry because LCD screens are best viewed at there default resolution.
