700M Optical Bay Travel Plug?

Sorry for the lack of correct terminology but if the 700M optical drive is removable for upgrade or replacement, is anyone aware of a weight saver "plug" so to speak to knock off some weight for travel purposes when there's no need for it. Sort of like whats available for small notebooks like the Fujitsu 7000 series. Can't seem to find any such reference for a part like this from Dell. If not, is it just ok to remove the bay and leave the bay open.

The optical drive on the 700m is not in a hot-swap bay; taking it out requires a screwdriver. You can do it, but you're not likely to find any ready-made cover plates out there.

I do not know if there are any issues with running a 700m without an optical drive.

Running 700M w/o optical drive

The slide latch on the bottom which allows the entire optical drive to be pulled out reveals a connector block on the inside face that is similar to the battery connection block. I've not tried to operate my 700M without the drive in place, but it looks feasable. Other than dust, I guess it's not worth that much in weight savings. I simple wondered in my initial post if there exists a dummy weight saver to replace the drive if one didn't need it all the time.

The 700m drive bay is a hot-swap bay. Dell just doesn't label it as a modular bay because there are no accessroies or batteries to fit into it at the moment, and the 700m doesn't have battery connecters. But it is still a hot-swap bay. It does have a thumb-latch on the bottom which make it easier to pull out than most fully labels "hot-swap" models dell offers.

I sometimes drop out the optical bay when I pick it up wrong. Well the bay doesn't fall out it just unlatches and slips out a little bit.
