And no more having to use the Mobility Driver modifier?
Here's a link to the release notes:

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/Catalyst...ase_notes.html

It has a list of desktop cards supported, but no mobility cards. And check out the "known issues" section of the notes.

Viktor, are you using this driver suite on a mobility card without a mod, or is this just info to pass along? I swear, the 5.6 drivers came out like 2 months ago. This release was quick! I'm pretty happy with 5.6, but the gains look amazing.

this + a 16 pipe mr9800 and a XPS might get into the 5k club afterall..

I haven't installed them yet. So the post was purely informational. I plan on giving it a go once i get home from work. I will post an update when I do.

I can never seem to get the mod tool to work, so I always use Omegas. Maybe I'll try these tonight.
Man, didn't ATI state they were going to support the Mobility in future releases of their drivers... or did I completely mis-read earlier posts on the subject....

OK. For whatever it's worth, here are my 3dmark05 scores with the 5.7 and comparisons with scores from previous drivers. All settings are in performance and i close the maximum number of background apps, leaving about 26 processes running. I installed them with the CCC using the patje mod.

ATI Catalyst 5.6 = 2884
Omega 5.6 = *crap* i don't think i saved those scores, but they were in the same 2800 ballpark, very similar to the Catalyst 5.6

ATI Catalyst 5.7 = 2709

So, i lost almost 200 points. I'll still keep using them though, to see how they do with the games I'm playing now. I may also d/l and install ati tray tools to add a few more tweaks. but, at this moment, i'm not impressed -- it's just a benchmark, though. I would love to see how others do.

Update.
Applications look fine, desktop looks fine, all looks fine.

I tried to run GTA:San Andreas, and it refuses to run. No error, warning, or anything. The mouse cursor flashes and that's it. I can't find any processes running that suggest that the game is loading or loaded. It just won't run. That's wild. The other game i have installed in my machine (psychonauts) seems to run fine....no problems.

weird. if anybody else is playing GTA:SA and installs the 5.7 catalyst, please post if you have the same problems. Good luck. I may have to go back to the omegas.

I think we are finally reaching a time when driver updates are no longer going to affect our grphx card performances as much anymore...I doubt those numbers that you posted at the beginning of this thread...especially for our gpu...

From what I hear, they do nothing for Battlefield 2...
I got lower performance with the 5.7, changing back...

So, i lost almost 200 points.
So, i cleaned out the ati 5.7s and put back my omegas 5.6 and my 3dmark05 scores are at 2916.

what is up with those new catalysts and the mr9800?????!?!?!?

Also, GTA:SA is working like a dream all over again.

how weird.

I hear BF2 players are having more problems with 5.7's and reverting back to 5.6.

I think the solution to our problems has been found.
I (and i'm guessing others) used the patje mod to install the 5.7 catalyst drivers that were meant to be used with the desktop cards. ATI DID RELEASE 5.7 Mobility drivers this time around!!! However, we can't access the link to download them directly. Someone on driverheaven.net posted the link to install the ATI 5.7 Mobility drivers. Guess what!!!?!? I installed them (without needed any mod) and the installation was perfect (no problems).

Better yet. my 3dmark05 scores went up this time -- to 2927. compare this to the scores i obtained on my previous post.

better still. SA:GTA works with no problems, once again. I'm happy!

here is the link to the post on driverheaven, where you can find the link to the correct drivers for our cards:

Ok compared to my default Dell stuff I gained 34% on 3DMark05

Original: 1341
Catalyst: 1797

That's on an Inspiron 9100 with ATI 9700 128MB

that's great. did you use the official ATI Catalyst 5.7 MOBILITY drivers? or did you manage to make that work with some other driver?

I installed those drivers you posted. The official ones from driversheaven. I OC'd my core speed to 498 and 279 for another test and now I get 1935 3Dmark05

So basically:

3DMArk05 Scorse:

Dell Drivers without OC : 1341
Catalyst without OC: 1797
Catalyst with OC (498/279): 1935

To me it seems that 2000 should be possible with some more OC.

Thanks goes out to anon for finding the 5.7 link for the mobility. No mod needed, and it's running BF2 like a dream at 1600 x 1200 on and Inspiron XPS gen1. Took a couple of tries to get it right, 'cuz I used Driver Cleaner and forgot to clean the leftover ATI files and registry keys in safe mode, and the drivers wouldn't load, but that's user error, not corrupted drivers.

Had one frazzled moment in BF2 where it crashed to the desktop with 32 colors, and I thought the 5.7's were corrupted, but I had made my trial run with the game right after the first reboot from install. Rebooted and ran it again with the higher in-game resolutions, and I've been playing for 1.5 hours so far - cool as the other side of the pillow.

Using BF2 as the benchmark, a dubious one considering EA's various flubs with the game, I can't find conclusive evidence that the new drivers don't help. I'm now playing very smoothly at the higer resolution, and I'll continue to fiddle with higher resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 and see the results. No OC'ing, and sorry, fellas, I don't have any 3DMark scores. Just touch and feel.

Thanks again for the link.
