Anyway, it's a moot point now that luke confirmed it is enabled.

(ps luke, you might wanna edit the 9750 review thread and fix the typo)
You might be getting mixed up with the Socket A boards - many of them only had three slots for memory although I believe you could still run dual channel with all three slots populated if the third slot was equal to the sum of the first two.

The smaller S939 boards I've seen tend to have two slots rather than three, MSI particularly with their physically smaller mATX boards.

It wasn't a mixup. Those were the first dual channel capable boards. This is the board I was thinking of:
http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=Mzk0

I finally did some research to show everyone i'm not insane...
This is the best thing I could find, look at the chart here for the nforce2 specs:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2002/11/...ane/page3.html

Notice that when 3 slots are populated the board reverts to single channel mode.

YEAH!!!! Just got it in! I'm leaving for the night, but I turned it on and everything checks out (X2 4800+, no dead pixels, and the 7800 GTX!)!
post #1064 of 1260
Awesome man! Here's to hoping ours ship out soon!! Grats!
post #1065 of 1260
Well mine is officially ordered, Thanks to Luke for getting everything straightened out for me (he knows what I am talking about). So lets see . . . what did I order . . .

WUXGA, X2 4800+, GeForce 7800GTX, 2Gb Ram, 2-7200RPM 100GB HD's, DVD RW+DL, 802.11+Bluetooth, Targus XL617 Bag, TV Tuner, XP Pro, Office Small business, 1 year extension of warranty, pixel policy . . .

Now since I already bought my Lightscribe DVD's I need to get me a lightscribe burner from somewhere. Too bad it is going to cost me another $300 or so to Fedex it to Mosul!

nForce2 is Socket A and not Socket 939.

I know that, I was just trying to make the point that there were boards in the past that were dual channel capable that had it disabled because of engineering issues.

I've got an Asus A7N8X Deluxe mobo with three ram slots with 512 chips in them and I have 1.5gb of DUAL CHANNEL according to the POST.

Both of these links show socket A boards:

-Nforce2 was the brand name for NV chipsets for Socket A AthlonXPs;
-Just by looking at the socket, it cannot be S939, since S939 pins populate the entire width and length of the socket, there is no "gap" in the middle;
-The motherboard logic traces from the memory sockets lead to the chipset, if you look at it carefully; and that's a telltale sign that there is no on-die memory controller, hence cannot be A64.
-The article you linked to tomshardware is dated to Nov 11 2002, when any A64, or even Opterons did not exist at that time.

Andy board that starts with 'A7--' is from the Athlon K7 generation.

It's very clear now that my point is completely lost. I don't have the energy to keep reiterating it.

I ran 3DMark05 and got the same as PCTorque (6770). I think I may do a review in the coming days.

OK, sorry, I guess you were saying that there were dual channel boards in the past of some socket of CPUs, that could have the dual channel memory disabled; but not necessarily S939. OK, I understand your point now. I just wanted to make things clear that this never happened to S939.

Out of sheer boredom I went to Sager's site this morning to configure a 9750 and see what the price came out to. The 100GB 7,200rpm HDs are already out of stock. Hopefully it was PC Torque's massive pre-orders that got them all and shipping won't be delayed. I'm still praying for an early Christmas but not really expecting anything till the 31st.
post #1076 of 1260
ah, hope my order went through before that!

That's why it was so strange that there were so many reports that these systems would not be dual channel capable. Obviously the s939 chips have an integrated memory controller (unlike the socket A guys) so they will always run in dual channel mode, I just thought it might be possible that engineering issues with the motherboard could be bottlenecking data to single channel speeds.
