So I guess the people that ordered direct from sager get the sata drives and we're stuck with pata? I actually prefer the pata drive, but I assume some people won't be happy.

I'm starting to get a little uncomfortable about this- putting out a release that says we're about to ship, but you need to switch drives limiting functionality in order for us to do so.

Huh? You have option of any of the SATA drives, just the 100gb 7200RPM SATA drives are out of stock.

I don't want to get in a pissing match over this because I'd rather have the pata drive anyway, but I don't understand how that drive could have been a purchase option when even the earliest preorders can't get it.

I am going to assume the reason being is Sager was not alerted by their suppliers to a shortage so they continued putting the SATA version of the drives into machines that were shipping and then they ran out, but that that is just my guess .

That's reasonable, and probably the most likely scenario. But I can't help but think they(sager) knew about the lack of supply and felt it would hurt their presales. So bait customers with the drive they want and switch to the less desirable one when shipping is imminent.

hmmmh...bummed but not a real issue for me since raid was requested..so long as i get 7K100 is all that matters.

Discount Laptops called and asked what I wanted to do, so I changed to the PATA 100gb 7200rpm drive. I could've also gone with the 80gb 7200rpm SATA.

Saved me a little money, I would've ordered this drive had it been an option on the order forms.

That's the next question... Is PCTorque going to discount those drives? I have no idea if they are cheaper or not.

Spoke to Luke - PATA are $10 to $15 cheaper (or more?) than the SATA.

Check out the config for the 9890 where they have the SATA and PATA drives.

Just checked, $25.00 cheaper. I am adding them to the system builders ATM.

I remember you stating that SATA drives are the only ones being offered by Sager

Thats becaues the PATA drivers aren't compatible in raid mode, notice in the builder it states the PATA options listed are not available in RAID mode. And their still not offer by Sager that way but until the 100gb 7k SATA options are back in we put in a request for them to allow this config.
Only the SATA drives can be raided. I was told they didn't offer the PATA on the builders to avoid confusion.

Hey Luke...what about the 100Gb 5400 rpm PATA for the secondary ? Not on the config builder yet.

I ordered my Sager 9750 with the default 40GB SATA drive. And was going to wait which Seagate Momentum 7200.1 was deliverable. Due to the huge price differences between the 80Gb and the 100Gb, I'm going with two 80Gb Seagate Momentum 7200.1 with the SATA interface.

My first reaction was to wait. It took 6 weeks to get the 100GB Seagate in my 4750. At the moment I'm only using 28GB. I ended up going with the 2 Sata 80GB. It's still a major increase in my overall storage capacity and I still have 900 GB of external storage. It's a disappointment but no biggie. To cheer myself up I added a TV Tuner, extra CD writer and extended warranty.

Hypersonic is selling D900K's with FX55's, possibly FX57's. Any word on Sager selling this setup, or a bios that supports them?

Hi Everyone;

Long time no post. Happy Holidays to. I'm sure this question has been answered; however the search isn't cooperating with me at all.

Does the new Sager support XP Pro 64 bit, if so why is no one selling the OS with the laptop; like PCTorque; because in my book they are the only one.

thx-1138

Ps I hate to ruin a great long time running thread. But this thread is becoming very very large. Since the laptops are out maybe it's time to close it and start a new support thread. I have a feeling that's why the search is choking though I could be wrong.

PPs Anyone running Linux successfully on the new laptop.? If so what distro's? What's supported and what isn't supported hardware wise?
