I don't think they were will say that, the Ultra in the XPS Gen 2 was a surprise when it came out. The 7800 would be a surprise as well, just hope it's not another locked deal like Dell had with the Ultra that stopped the availability to other OEMs for 6 months...

If NVidia does that, then ATi will release the M528 to all competitors, hugely increasing its adoption. If ATi does it, NVidia will release the 7800 Go to everyone.

This is assuming, of course, that ATi's mobile card will follow the desktop M528 VERY closely. I wouldn't be too surprised, as they've delayed it far too long in desktops.

See I knew it was worth the wait on the 6800 Ultra. I can soon upgrade from ther 6800 to the 7800 ( I know then there will be a 7800 Ultra or whatever.) But I let a generastion of video cards come and go and I still have not seen any games that I cannot play on my 9860!

When will the D900K be released? October? I think I might be able to hold out... But yes it would be nice if we could get it confirmed that the 7800 or ATIs version (shader version 3.0) would be available at launch time.

wait, so since luke said that the 7800 requires no modification, due to its w-use and heat production. Does this mean the 7800 ultra will also be able to hook up with a xps2 or 9880? required that the pin alignment is present....does this mean a xps2 or 9880 are capable of gpu upgrades, considering(hopefully) the future gpus support new tech(less heat and hunger for power) and the same pin setups?

So then these are tru dtr's.
the 9880 for sure has an upgradable GPU, many people have upgraded from the 6800 to the ultra already. Not sure about the Dell though.

The 7800 requires less power and produces less heat and works with the same PCI-E technology as the previous cards...
by Luke.

If this stands true with the final specs there isn't any reason it would not work in the 9880 or the upcomming D900K. If the 9880 handle the heat and power of the 6800 ultra, then what would make the 7800 go incompatible. When the 9860 was released Luke said that Clevo used its own format for the video card that was niether MXM or ATI's Axiom here is Lukes quote

Sager/Clevo used their own technology, not MXM or AXIOM, but a hybrid. It will allow for upgrades to either ATI or NVIDIA.

Which leads me to believe the use OEM chips not preprocessed video boards form either company (which might actually be a good thing). I don't see any reason this is not a viable upgrade.

can anyone speculate a price? im looking to buy the ferrari 4005, around christmas time, however if this dtr is released by then, and roughly in the same ballpark with price, then i am definitly on the bandwagon....

i understand it lies on configuration, but lets say base price for the middel model....
Well I am sure the fully loaded one I am going to get will top the $4300 (give or take)of my money Luke is already holding for me

My guess is that it will cost WAY more than the Ferrari 4005WLMi. Just a hunch...

Yeah, maybe more since mine was originally configured with the 80G SATA drives and now I see there are 100G SATA and 120G PATA, a higher resolution camera and who knows what else to upgrade

Here is where I am confused, the D900k is said to have the same components as the D900T... So am I missing something or do the X2 procs weigh about 2lbs? IMHO wait for official specs from Sager before drawing conclusions about this machine.
Didnt you know that? The X2 actually means that it is 2x as heavy as the single core processors! And the the K in D900K weighs quite a bit more the the T in D900T also, lol
