AMD...good all around performer.
For best performance with best price , AMD dual core, very good in games and a lot of power! Beat the Intel dual core 840! if is power for single thread or little multitasking, FX 55 is best but with a little margin against the 4400+ or 4800+ and there the 4400+ is the winner with it's price! (+/- 580$ against +/- 800 for FX55....)

Of course AMD X2 is not winner for all of the task but not for a lot....

Now...when this is finally released, I wonder if we would be able to configure the system, online, with any of the cpu's and gpu's that are said to be supported by the platform.

To liquidous:

In the time my program will compile in single thread with my intel 3.2HT,

with the new X2 4400+ i will doing these things:

compile my program in 1/2 of the time
keep the antivirus on
reconstruct 5 150MB of indices

watching TV
or listen to music and watching for new post in forum's...

The dream machine: 900k with 4800+ overclocked 2 X sata 120GB raid 0
will reduce in 25min my compile time.... ( I have to do it about 3 in a day)

Will have an hour to play ... or spending time with my kids yeah...

"Windows Vista will use a new prefeteching system that will cache frequently used data requests and programs to help speed up your daily chores. This prefetch memory system also extends to the use of USB drives:

Superfetch adds the memory on the USB key to the system's virtual memory, which in turn is used to preload applications and data which the user accesses frequently.

The USB option offers the ability to upgrade the system's memory even if there are no physical memory slots, allowing laptop users to increase system speed, according to Alchin."

Caught this from AnandTech's page. Does this mean you can stick in, for example, a Sandisk 2GB USB Drive, and it adds 2GB of RAM to your system?

All the info should be on the first entry by Luke. Though I hope they're just premature specs because a new AMD64 laptop with no dual core is just wrong.

What about the FX-57 as an all around intel kicker assser. i do some gaming, but mostly windows stuff, excell, photoshop, and like the speed to get the job done. if the fx57 has the ooomph that the intel doesn't then cool. im told the dual core is an upgradeable option on this board, so i can do it later, but the dual core isn't going to help gaming much, and isn't going to totally BLOW AWAY a single core for multi tasking. im not going to xp64 any time soon either. however i would like to slap linux on my lappy.

so im still in the debate with myself to go intel 3.8ghz or AMD FX57 with theri 2.8 ghz.

whats the werd G?
Well the FX57 will SMOKE the Intel proc on games and single apps, but HT does help a little in more that one app for sure. A dual core will allow you to play a game AND run other apps at the same time. But yeah, you can upgrade later as far as I know so it is your decision to make. I am torn a bit myself haha.
yup. i can see where id be torn between playing a network game and working on my excel spreadsheets at the same time. hahahah.. ya right.

but anyway, hmm. i think i might have to sit and wait until the fx57 machine comes out.

im sure i could find a desktop out there somewhere with the fx57 and test it out, then whatever i like about it, will obviously be aparent in the upcoming laptops that are to be realeased soon.

i have money in hand waiting to purchase the alienware 7700 3.8ghz intel or wait until this amd shid comes out.

damn it.
dude AMD if you are gaming. Just wait a bit. I wouldnt wait forever, but since this is right around the corner, i would go dual core 4800 or fx57 over that p4 3.8
post #379 of 1260
DUDE!!! FX57 for gaming ooh! wonder how benches from the dual core 4800 vs the FX57 will differ.... I like to run games, but I also like to do photoshopping; CS2 supports dual processors. Im not too much into the Intel processors anymore....

They already have gaming benchmarks that compare the 4800 and fx57 at hothardware
