Official Clevo D900K Countdown Thread - Page 33

Count me out now. Dell is already shipping the 7800gtx and I am not interested in p-4. If its not out by Nov second week I will go dell.
If they launch in Dec, we'll be just 1-2 months away from AMD launching their sockets M2 & S1. We'll start waiting all over again for Clevo's models on those new CPU sockets & DDR2.

The circle of life continues..........
If that's so, how many of you guys are gonna get the 9750 when it is released? Will the shipment delay have any affect on whether or not you'll purchase the 9750 if the M2 sockets will be released around the 1st Q of 06?
this delay is doing me no good
Argh! the suspense is killing me! LOL! But it is right what most of us say in here: Better wait than sorry...

Speaking of which, since I got a new DELL LCD, I'll be concentrating buiding myself a Quad Opteron (2*1DP) system (IWILL SFF Zmaxd2) until way past Dec when the D900K has been spit polished to perfection. heh...

Upgradability - since yonah, m2 sockets, insert-emerging-tech-here... is like a few months away from the slated Dec release of the D900K, it kinda makes me think twice on getting the D900K. Like most of you... again we're all concern about Upgradability...

Its amazing how simple information can change tides of decisions twice over.. still I await patiently on a D900T vs D900K review that Luke would do. Surely it would be grounds to base judgement on what to buy.

Of the 100s of people ive talked too and 3 laptops i've owned i've never once considered putting in a new CPU or upgrading the computer unless a part dies or your adding more RAM. Because of the nature of laptops right now... i dont really think you should concern yourself with upgradability so much as buying a technology which may be bested by something else had you waited a little longer.

Aso of now, Jan 2006 will be when I'll order one.
I don't think there is any point in waiting untill a notebook comes out with new technologies. We knew about dual core this time last year, it was released in April, and we are still waiting for the notebook. If you wait for a yonah or whatever notebook it is likely it won't comeout for another year. (judging by how long its taking to get the D900K out anyway.

Ok, I'll add my long drawn out groan and deep sigh to everyone else's.
...Aaaarrrrrggghhhh...
Been looking for an upgrade to my 8890 since summer '04.
Sheesh!
Just had my first inexplicable shutdown yesterday. Boot screen said "No OS found." Yikes... Reboot worked fine but...
It's now getting to the point of being nervous whether the old machine will let me wait for the 9750.
9890 isn't much of an upgrade to the old machine...
...Aaaarrrrrggghhhh...
Well I guess i could work on a desktop...
groan...
br2, I am the same way. All of our 8890's are starting to have that same symptom and what makes it worst, I was out of town the other day and my power supply failed! That was painful.
Well about the same time as the 9750 comes out the latest thing will be shipping:

Looks interesting, but I think I'll pass...would need to get my head checked if I spent that much!

It was discussed on slashdot. Conclusion - it is a hoax.

I was wondering if the np9750 will have the same issue as with compaq r4000... Regarding the disabling intentionally the dual channel capability...

"Dear _:

You are correct that the AMD 64 3200+ does not support dual channel
memory. The reason is that the 3200+ is based on the socket 754
technology. The socket 939 processors like the AMD 3500+ do support
this feature.

Thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard.

I hope I have thoroughly answered all of your presales questions.
Please reply to this message if we can be of further assistance.

Once again, thank you for your interest in Hewlett-Packard products.

Is it true that the amd-based hp and compaq laptop is really NOT a 64 bit coz it can't function one?

I just read it in the above forum and was shocked. It must be a marketing ploy and a legal suit waiting to happen if that is the case. "

Also since the Microsoft Vista is soon to be released... Is it better to wait for the notebook to be configured with Vista before buying it?

There will always going to be newer technology. All I am really stating is expandability of a product in light of newer technology. I wouldn't want to say, invest on a laptop that I know was built with expandability/upgradability in mind (whitebooks like the D900's with say the new graphics interface -- i.e: 6800go upgradable to 7800go... to the 8800go even when the time comes...), when some shmuck in the factory (no pun intended!) changed their mind and I am faced with a brick wall halting my upgrade process and making me green with envy to the next big thing. This I hate...

Most of us here in this thread who have trust fund savings ready to be spent on one D900K will most probably go for the latest and greatest CPU, RAM, GFX and would not be much concerned with the expandability aspect of the product. But for those of us who can only afford a Sempron for now with the prospect of upgrading to an 4800 X2 at a later date only to find that AMD moved to the M2 socket for ALL the 4800 X2's AND stopped producing the 939 versions (ok ok... that's the worst case scenario... like when Intel stopped producing P2's... heh.. ), we wouldn't want to be hitting that brick wall then...

The ZMAXd2 can support two Opteron 200 series CPU. What they ment by '2 way' (two physical PGA CPUs...) it means that you can plonk in two of these Opteron 200 series CPU on either socket 940 on the ZMAXd2 for a QUAD-core CPU goodness! At least this is my understanding of what they state on their website... I am in contact with IWILL on this matter as I am very serious in aquiring one of these little monsters from them.

Opps I read '2 way' as 2 cores. Let us know how it turns out

Pretty sure that 754-pin A64's can still use the 64-bit Windows.....you don't need to have dual channel memory to be able to use 64-bit Windows. The only 754-pin HP's that may be incapable of this are the Sempron based systems because AMD intentionally disabled the 64-bit function on them to seperate their market from the Athlon64.

This isn't a legal suit waiting to happen....it's no big secret that 754-pin CPU's aren't dual-channel, that's the primary reason people prefer 939-pin. Besides, doesn't affect ones capacity for using a 64-bit OS anyways.
