Most desktops I have seen the X2 cpus in have dual CH mem DDR 400.
So what are your opinions, Yes or No and why???
Also, in the config page for the 5720 I do not see 100GB SATA 7200 HDDs as an option. The new Hitachis are avail now are they not?? They were just reviewed on THG tonite. I want these in my next laptop. I have been waiting 6damn mo for this since my 10day old 9880 developed a usb fault and had to be returned. I know we are all in same damn slow boat......
I've looked at both 5720 config pages and both include the 100 gig 7200rpm SATA hd as an option, just check near the bottom; the only one below it is the 120 gig 5400 rpm SATA hd.

Hmmh..something may be happening soon, just noticed Sager added a little corner add for the 9750 with the X2 on their front page, usually they leave it with flash animated ad that shows off the 5720, 9890 and 9750.

I have some thoughts regarding the SATA...
According to one I read

"As a notebook user, as far as you're concerned, Serial ATA 3.5" drives don't exist. They're not important in your world. If you're assembling your own external hard disk with your own enclosure (more later), you'll only be using regular IDE (also called Ultra ATA). If you're just going to buy an external hard disk, then you really don't care about this and it doesn't apply to you.

99% of notebooks today use conventional IDE (or ATA-5/ATA-6 in notebooks) as a connector, and that's what almost all (if not all) the notebook hard disks on the shelf at the local retail store are using. But for you unlucky folks that have a notebook using the newer Serial ATA (or SATA) connector, upgrading is going to be a bit harder. Serial ATA is still really new in the notebook sector and, in this author's opinion, profoundly unnecessary."

Are SATA drives difficult to upgrade???

I think December is set in stone for this system. When Alienware starts making it available for preorder and is sending out promo emails about the system, it is 99.99% percent certain that it will be available next month.

I dont think SATA drives will be any more diff to physically replace, I think that article is saying they will be hard to find. But I have Frys!!

According to Luke with regards to 98x0 ...
http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=87021

"This thread was originally coceived as a rant for the over asked question "Why isn't 4 GB offered in the 98x0" However I will now try to update it with a few commonly asked questions about this laptop.

4GB Memory
The Clevo D900T(9860, 9880, Area 51 7700, Hypersonic EX7, or any other variant there of) model can not us 4GB of memory, while as stated by the Intel 915P chipset it can address up to 4GB, 1.17GB of this addressable memory bandwidth is reserved for other hardware devices... no matter what operating system you use, this is still the case(Yes that means you cannot use it with XP 64!!)."

Is this also applicable to the NP9750???
Would it be capable of running Windows XP 64???

Yes you can use it with XP64...Still no drivers for Camera, Modem, and the audio works but still shows as a problem in device mgr. I got drivers for the wireless and BT from another user here on the forum and that at least makes the machine useable.

I think Sager has given up trying to get every thing working under x64... they haven't updated the beta drivers since last June.

Has anyone had any sucess getting a 64-bit version of linux runing?
No, he means you can't get 4GB of memory available even with xp64, not that you can't use the operating system on the 98x0 at all.

OK Thanks guys Got it...
Windows x64 will work but not with 4GB in the 988X model.
And Windows x64 will work in NP9750

But since x64 is not well accepted yet (still in the Getting to Know You stage)...
I guess when the NP9750 comes out it won't come out with a windows x64 operating system as one of the options

Because there is a disadvantage in buying retail store from that bought from the reseller themselves...

Based on the partial summaries submitted in the discussion on Sager Reseller Customer Service-- There is a lifetime technical support for operating system bought from resellers...

I just wish they will include windows x64 in their release or if not, have at least, an option of buying it later thru the reseller with the technical support.

alienware has some nice lappys. i currently have an alienware. i wasn't aware that AW was going to release this x2 laptop. i saw some posts about painting laptops, there are a few good companies that do this , i read that PCT said they would be able to resume painting laptops with the sager warranty. don't quote me on this but i think it is in the works...?

check out this page for Do it yourself laptop painting, its pretty well done.
humantree.com is another reputable place that does it. some guy in louisville, he does it at every lanwar (lanwar.com) event.

*********pc.com does all the painting for ipods and ibooks, etc. check out those purple powerpc's.

Hi,

I noticed that the 5720 can have an 802.11a/b/g module *and* a bluetooth module. At the moment the 9750 is looking like it will be either 802.11a/b/g *or* 802.11b/g and bluetooth. I was really hoping for 802.11a/b/g/bluetooth in my 9750. Any speculation? Any resellers (luke :-) know anything?

Thanks

Benoni
Because 802.11a is pointless with g out maybe . . .

The 9750 is designed the same way as the 98XX, it has one slot for wireless and BT where as the 5720 has a seperate slot for wifi and BT. Since there is not a abg + BT card in production, well thats why .
