New Vid cards

Someone please tell me they've heard news or know something about Dell supporting some higher end vid cards for the 6000! It would be like Christmas for me!

i haven't heard of anything yet. i've tested out the X300 on a 6000 playing Half-Life 2, it ran really nicely. why the rush?

The problem is, Dell seems to make a huge distinction between business and gaming. If they could put an X700 or something in the 6000, people would probably flock to the 6000. But as it stands, Dell refuses to be smart... if they even did, I doubt they'd go above the X600. It'd probably be released as a new model anyway, probably due to chassis and heat issues.

If you put an x700 in the 6000 it gives you almost no reason to buy the XPS or 9300.

I agree with the above.... they are giving the distinction between budget - 6000 and performance/gaming - xps. But i presume later in the year when the Lexus line is release that will be even clearer.

And as noted the 6000 will have trouble with the heat if a more powerful card is in there.... unless they include an additional fan for the GPU... and in which case the redesign will signify a new model being released.

So i doubt they will go anything above the x600, which is bearly an improvement over the x300.

Not quite. It would compete directly with the M70, but overwhelm the D810. The X700 is nowhere near the full 6800 Ultra on the XPS; not even the level of the QuadroFX Go 1400 on the M70. And these machines both have much bigger screens. Futher, the D810, the M70 and the i9300 have much more sophisticated hardware (extra fans and vents) for dealing with the extra heat from powerful gpu's compared to the i6000.

Dell already offers three upgrades for the video on the Inspiron 6000,
The Dell 9300, the Latitude D810 and the Precision M70 HEHE, sorry I couldnt resist,
as mentioned, the 6000 cannot thermally handle a really good card, however you can overclock your x300 and get about the same performance as the x600 card.
I strongly agree with others, if the 6000 had an x700 and second cooling fan, I would most likely have bought that system instead of the 9300.
Now that Ive had my 9300 for a week,I dont think I would ever be willing to give up the nice 17 inch wide screen though. before my purchase, 15.4 was the smallest I would ever have considered. Dell really missed the mark here with this model but as mentioned those other models can be had and teh 9300 can be had for about the same price as the 6000. The 6000 is a pound and a tad lighter than the 9300, not much smaller either, see specs. The d810 and M70 weight just as much as the 9300. as tested.

One could argue that with the 9300, there really isnt any reason to buy the XPS which is a bit heavier and runs hotter and costs cha ching, alot more for the slight increase in performance the 6800 ULTRA offers over tehe 6800 go in the 9300.

Alot of people will still not buy an xps or 9300 thinking that they are GIGANTIC, the 6000 is only bout half an inch less in depth and an inch less in width. Mainstream users in my opinion will still want the 15.4 inch screen and deserve a good graphics card solution.
LOL, dell could make a ton of money selling an upgrade card of some sort for the 6000.
