Intel customers allowed to use AMD processors

"Sources in the PC industry hinted that Intel has informed its OEM customers that they are allowed to adopt AMD processors in products that are usually based on Intel CPUs. More new PCs, including Fujitsu-Siemens Esprimo E and P models, based on AMD processors are expected to hit the market in 2H. For AMD, the lawsuit against the chip giant seems to be working in the OEM market. [DigiTimes]"

nice congrats AMD!

Laf! It will be interesting to see if any other companies start selling AMD based products in the next few months. Turion Sony Viao anyone? How about a AMD64 Toshiba Qosimo?

You know, if anything I would say this hurts Inetl's case - now it's going to look (to anyone intelligent) like Intel's has in fact been doing everything AMD is accusing them of, and are now trying to jump back and come out smelling rosy.

It's great for AMD. And I have a hunch it might not help Intel too much in the lawsuit...

Hell is going to freeze over before Dell switch to AMD. Do you really think that Intel Retail Group, Inc. would use anything but Intel Inside?

It's called pride, conceit, arrogance, Dell has basicly messed up. If they start to offer AMD now, they will come of as being a weak company that lived under pressure from Intel (which ofcause they did and will continue to do), and if Dell continues to just offer Intel, it will look more and more foolish for every day that pass. Who needs Dell, all they sell is old gen. 32-bit systems anyways...

Frankly, I would rather get my AMD systems from other vendors, I don't want Dell and their sub quallity and horrible support (I even heard they shut down their messageboard where you can vent issues with their products), scarry.

not that it matters, or that you will care..... but you can get Dell desktops with 64-bit support..

that doesn't take away from the fact that Pentium 4s suck though.. I hope OEMs start releasing A64 models, and market them properly.. this will force Intel into releasing Conroe, and Merom sooner.

yeah, that statement from intel was made while they are holding an axe over the other companies heads, they can say what they want, but everyone knows how the game is played.

horray for AMD~!!

Hmm, that's funny. Last time I looked, which was about 20 minutes ago, Dell was offering PCs with 64-bit technology. OH MY GOD. I just remembered. They have PCs with the dual core processors, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Francly, I would rather get my AMD systems from other vendors, I don't want Dell and their sub quallity and horrible support (I even heard they shut down their messageboard where you can vent issues with their products), scarry."
Actually, that messageboard was for real problems with Customer Support, not for venting about their products. If you ran a business, you would also shut down a "Customer Care" board when instead of actually being used as a way to solve problems with Customer Support, half the threads were from stupid people who create their own problems, and another quarter of them were about lawsuits. Come to think of it, very, very few of the potential lawsuits had any evidence to support their complaint.

FRANKLY, I wouldn't take advice from a guy who thinks that "francly" is a word. I mean, come on. If the "c" were anywhere close to the "k", I would understand, but that's just ridiculous. Then again, you can't spell "scary", either, so I guess it's no use saying anything.

The strategic partnership between Intel and Dell saves end users like myself $. I like that.

You are right, I have never been very good at spelling. But then again I don't worry enough to correct it. If I spelled better, would your opinion change? Anyway, I did not give you an advice. I only stated MY opinion, which remains the same. If this is the only way you can justify Dell to me, then don't bother. Yes I should have made myself more clear on what I meant with 64 bit system, I was talking about notebooks, isn't that what this forum is about? I take it you like Dell, just a hunch, (got nothing to do with your avatar). I got no problem with that and I will not try to convince you one way or another! Just to make myself clear. My opinion was only about Dell as a company not their products users.

intel h8ters... but then its only fare...
well.. dell is a huge ... intel has to thank them.. see those 500 bux dell system's with P-M? .. well.. Intel is giving them a good deal.. AMD probally won't be able to offer this to dell..
i frankly find like a 500 bux dell 700m quite attractive.. make it 800 bux u get decent specs .. even if it breaks down after a year.. a lot of ppl change laptops by then

"If I spelled better, would your opinion change?"
No, but I would take your opinion more seriously. I might even respect it, like I respect the opinion of other Dell haters who can spell correctly.

I'm not trying to rag on you, and I'm sorry if I did. I guess you respect my opinion, and even though you can't spell enough to make your posts sound intelligent, I'll respect your's since you respect mine. Anyway, I'm not trying to turn you to a fan of Dell or anything like that.

I'm sorry, but I cannot help it. Is there such a thing as "an advice"?

I use a Venice in my desktop, but I have used several Pentium M (dothans) , and I am very impressed with intel going towards that build now.

Everything that people used to complain about intel is turning around, ehh?

High Heat, watts, only in it for the Ghz race, bad overclockers, etc.,.

I'd like to see more competition, but I don't see Intel's grasp of the market slipping by much anytime soon. Intel may not be able to 'force' companies to only use their product, but by offering deep discounts to those who only use their processors, they can accomplish the same thing. You know, just the volume discount deal, which I'm not sure that AMD could do at this time.

As far as "old gen. 32-bit systems... " I don't see 32-bit going away anytime soon, seeing as right now there are few mainstream programs that can even take advantage of the 64-bit processor. I have nothing against AMD, in fact I have an old Duron desktop that has served me very well and would have gotten an AMD based laptop if the price was right when I looked, but I'm not about to upgrade to a new system just for the 64-bit, when none of the programs I use now would do any better on it.
