Final Decision for a Student - 6000 or 700m - Page 2

When you understand the marketing behind Dell, you'll truely understand the term immoral. Anyway, regardless of whether he can get the CC to work for his "accident," it does not make him any closer to a 700m. If he got it under the coupon price, then just sell it on eBay. He'll likely make everything back, if not more, and buy the 700m. Besides, if he's thinking about the 700m now, what in the world made him jump on the 6000? Did he bother to do any research or even find a physical piece to look at? Most universities have an association with Dell, so they would likely have these laptops displayed at the campus bookstore.

But frauding complete care wont turn his i6000 into an i700? I thought they replaced it with the same laptop model.

If you're traveling every day I'd say take a look at both at a local kiosk before deciding. The 6000 is pretty heavy for taking every day (assuming you really need to travel that often with it), and the 700m has a funky keyboard (period/comma keys) that I think everyone should try before buying. If it wasn't for the keyboard I'd grab the 700 personally, but I can't deal with it. If you end up like me, your choices from there become the D410 and X1, both of which look like pretty good machines.

I looked at just about every laptop out there. I really wanted to go with something extremely light to start with (for example - 700m, a few of the Latitudes). But I didn't find any of them had any real power. My desktop is old and I know it will be biting the dust soon. I finally went with the 6000. I get 4-5 hours of battery life with the 9 cell and more that 3 with the 6 cell. The power brick is pretty light and the laptop itself isn't bad to carry when the 6 cell is in. I have just about quit using my desktop completely now. I absolutely love my 6000. I will be in law school and will be doing lots of papers and such and the keyboard is great to type on. That's just my $.02

Hey thanks, BradLSU.

That helps us almost-college kids feel more comfortable.

[quote=Keyone]Actually graphic cards do have some things to do with dvd viewing/QUOTE]

perhaps i should have been a bit clearer. for dvd playback the integrated will work fine. no need for special graphics cards to watch dvd's

The only bad part of the 700m is the extended battery, good amount of hours, but the extended part...

Other than that great laptop. I am also a student, i dont mind typing on it (just zoom to 135% in word and it looks normal without the stretched bars).

Great laptop, but i would suggest go to a dell store or kiosk, thats what i did, and i loved the 700m!

700m +1 from me!
