Ordered M60

Thread Starter
I finally decided on the M60 due to battery life since I'm now at school most of the time, graphics chip, and screen resolution. I used a 10% off coupon combined with the current $500 Small Business discount, so i got a $3300-$3400 configuration for $2600 (not including tax)

Pentium M 1.6 GHz (price difference for 1.7 is rediculous)
512 MB DDR RAM (add more later)
60 gig 7200 rpm drive
8-24-24-24x DVD/CD-RW combo drive
15.4" WUXGA display
Quadro FX 700 128 MB DDR
WinXP
Internal Modem
No floppy
802.11b radio (school only has b )
Norton 2003

Good deal? Bad deal? Let me know. This is meant to replace my current desktop which is about 3 years old, and while the M chip isn't a 3 GHz HT monster by any means, I think I'll be happy with the laptop. I won't be doing much gaming on it simply due to the lack of time, but it should hold up fine for the games I want to do.

That's an awesome price on the 8600, but there aren't any offers like that running right now.
you can buy the 8600 under small or large business its a better deal since the graphics card wont blow you apart and that radeon 9600 is coming along that you cna upgrade into if you care..

A similar 8600 system is indeed a bit cheaper, but I want to get the Quadro chip personally. Dell is only giving $200 off the 8600 now, and a 1.7 GHz WUXGA system isn't available for some reason.
Hi

Why do you wanna get the Quadro chip ?

What work will you do on the M60 ?

Going to be doing some 3D work (and probably more in the near future). The benchmarks for the card are good and it seems to be more stable than others

Hi

You wrote that you going to school .

How old are you ?

When will you get your M60 ?

I hope that I can order my M60 next week .

you should get the DVD-RW 4x I think it will be good to copy datas from the Harddrive .

I think that the M60 is really good , I hope too that I will like it .

The Price I have to pay for the M60 is 3400 Euro .

Would be nice to read more about you .

I'm 18, almost 19, majoring in physics. The preliminary date given is Dec 5 for shipping and I have next day delivery, but hopefully it ships sooner!

I thought about getting the DVD burner but I wouldn't use it that often (as opposed to CD-RWs) and I didn't want to pay the price for it now. I'll probably get an external drive, or just add one to my desktop later on.

The build quality of the M60 seems to be really good from everything I've heard.

The only reason I didn't get the Area-51m was battery life, as nice as the performance of that system is.

Hi

I m 20 and I m going to work with Adobe Photoshop 7.0 on the M60 .

I think that the M60 should be very good for Photoshop .

I dont think that I will play a lot on the Laptop maybe Flightsimulator 2004 .

But I m going to use the M60 as a Desktop Replacement because I m going for a few month to USA .

This is the system :
WUXGA 1,7 ghz
1GB
60GB ATA-100 IDE (7200 rpm
4x DVD-RW
WIN XP PRO
NVIDIA® QuadroTM FX Go700 128MB graphics
Deluxe Nylon Carrying Case
Bluetooth Module

What do you think about it ??

Nice config. I didn't want to spend the extra money for 1.7 GHz and I'm going to order more RAM elsewhere since Dell charges too much (I suggest you do the same). Didn't get DVD burner because I personally have no need for it and I'll use desktop for mass storage if I need to.
Yeah I think the Config is good like that .

I order Bluetooth with it , maybe I need it later .

I didnt order Wireless Lan because I dont need it , I always can buy if I need it and put it into the PCI Slot .

My M60 should arrive too about the 1-5 dec , I hope that it will work very stable .

Where do you from ? What City ?

Maybe you can give me your E-Mail adress so we can stay in contact , because we both get the M60 about the same time .

You orderd too a WUXGA Display , why did you buy the Wuxga ?
I orderd it because I need a lot of space for editing with Video and Photos .

I m from Germany , but I lived for 2 years in London .
And I still fly very often to England .

I heard from a few people that they use the M60 for Video Editing and that they are very happy .
So I think that I m going to be happy aswell , because thats what I m going to do .

Bye

I got a new Dell coupon today for 15% off instead of 10% like I used before, so I re-placed the order and am getting the laptop for $2620 with tax/shipping (got next day). Dell Small Business support was very helpful in doing this (although it did take some time to apply the additional 5% off).

Got WUXGA because I love high res

I'm in Ohio. My ship date is listed as Dec. 3, which is sooner than the date on the old order. Maybe they got some screens in?

David, has your ship date changed at all? Mine is now set to ship out Nov 28
post #15 of 51
Hi

No I still have to wait until dec .

But I m going to Call tomorrow Dell to ask why it takes so long , to build my M60 .

I need it .

Do you think you will keep the M60 for sure , or will you see first if you really like it (do you think about the 2 weeks money back from dell) ?

I have to test first the M60 if all the Software programms (Videoediting...) works stable because I need it for work .
But I m almost surely that I will keep the M60 , its the best Laptop I have found . So normaly it should be a great Laptop .

But we here in Germany have only about 14 days return , that means I have to check the M60 if everything works perfect .
When I get my M60 I hope that I get the time to work everyday a few hours with it to check that everything works .

Best
David

I'm not sending it back unless there is some major problem with it.....I've done a lot of research and I think the M60 is the best laptop for my needs.

Hi

I called DELL up today and they told me that my Dell M60 ships in the next 10 Days .
Will see if that is true .

Watch this ebay site very nice photos of the M60

Does anyone now what exactly this means :
Smart Card Reader `?
I now its for security but what exactly can I do with that ?

Thanks

10 days would be really awesome if true! When I first ordered it, I wasn't expecting to have it until mid-December.

I'm not sure on the details of the reader. I don't know what software is available to program it or to provide security with it. I think smart card writers go for a few hundred at the very least, anyone want to correct me? I don't know that much about the subject

I woke up this morning to find my order being boxed, so it should be here tomorrow, meaning yours should be on its way today or tomorrow as well.
Boxing usually take 3-4 days or more....
