Upgrading Ram - 6000d

post #1 of 5

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased a 6000d, and I ordered it with the default 256MB of Ram, for I'm planning on swapping it out with two 512MB sticks. I used the Ram configuration tool on crucial.com, and the memory speed it suggested was 400Mhz. Isn't the 6000d capable of 533MHz Ram? Should I purchase the 533Mhz sticks instead? From this thread, http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=95135, it seems like it would work, but crucial recommends me use RAM with a latency of 3, while the ones I find on newegg are of latency 4. Will that matter?

Also, are there any pictorials or guides for upgrading the Ram on an Inspiron 6000? I've never upgraded or taken apart a laptop before.

*I'll probably buy the Ram on newegg.com, but I used the crucial.com tool to figure out what kind of Ram I would need.

Thanks!
Kirupa =)

According to a post in Dell's forums, http://forums.us.dell.com/supportfor...cending&page=1, even though the new RAM is capable of 533Mhz RAM, it will only run at 400. That can't be true, right? :P

It's not true. 533MHz DDR2 RAM works fine in the i6000.

The i6000 will run 533MHz RAM fine. Check out screen shots here:
