Yikes

When going inside of my Dell 9300 I broke that little clip that holds the keyboard cable in place. im typing this using the character map...this sucks so bad. only a few keys work. I have the two year warranty with Dell, but I don't really want them to come to my house and fix it and see that it has AS5 on the processor and GPU...and then I don't want them to see that I pinmodded it as well. Is there any way that I can order that piece and install it myself, or can I just sit there while the tech guy fixes the piece. I have a year warranty that I paid for and I would hate for it to be canceled. If it's canceled, do I get my money back for paying for the warranty?

i mean two year warranty sorry

They are not going to remove your cpu or video card to replace the keyboard. They shouldnt know it was done any other way, except curiousity on why you wer ein their and how it broke. Just buy a keyboard of ebay or third party dell supplier and replac eit yourself if you are that worried.

the keyboard itself isn't broken, just the part that clips it onto the motherboard.

The plug on the keyboard or the part on the motherboard? if it is the plug on the keyboard then you have to replace the keyboard, cant just replace the plug. Maybe you can find one but putting it on is another story. If its the plug on the mb, then goodluck.

Nice warranty abuse.

Buy a new keyboard.

yeah i was wondering that too.. if you void your warranty then do they refund you the money?
They will not refund the money. This type of issue is an obvious abuse I am sure Dell will not help, but then again Dell never stops amazing me with their generosity. They are a great company to deal with. Goodluck my man...

Let us all know how it turned out! Good Luck

Pfff, like those technicians are gonna be like little crybabies and void your warranty cause you pinmodded and AS5'd it, i think they just don't care and there only there to do their job and replace your shit and then leave to home again.
They replace parts all day and they see enough people doing this

I'm sure they're out on tech-calls all day fixing some noobs 9300's keyboard because he decided he was "l33t" enough to put thermal compound on his gpu ( which he already has, granted not good enough ), and pin-mod his processor.

I'm glad you understand

I told them that I broke it, and they said ok it happens all the time. They said, "we'll just send you a tech guy down there in 5 business days, or if you prefer to install it yourself, we can ship it via ups and it'll arrive within one to two business days. I chose to install it myself. AWESOME, I still have my two year warranty.

Wow, I can't believe they let it slip. You were definetely at fault. You are one lucky guy, if I was you i'd make this the last time you open up your notebook

'warranty abuse'? please... there was no reason not to try.

Legally you have the right to do whatever you want to your own personal property. I’ve applied AS5 to my XPS and I defy anybody to tell me it has harmed it in any way. In fact, just the opposite, the temps are lower which is a positive.

To void the warranty you would have to do something that exceeds its intended purpose/specs. Pin-modding, oc’ing would fall into that category.

But it’s all just academic if you have onsite repair because the guy that does mine is rather rough on it and doesn’t follow the proper sequence when working on it. And he knows I know. But he doesn't care, he's just a tech. Doesn't cost him anything if he breaks something. So he’ll say anything I want him to say ‘cause I know his ass is mine…

ROFL
You are right. It is my property, and I can do what I want to it. If they would have come to my house, I would have simply swapped back to the old processor. Yeah you are right too with the fact that putting AS5 doesn't harm it in any way, it actually improves it.
