Thanks for the info, BTW! So they should start shipping by the end of this month?
Dates are very skeptical as of right now. ASUS is notorious for have a product come out but then having numerous delays and set backs... If everything went perfectly, they should be shipping late this month/early August (in time for the school year).

From what I've read so far, it seems that only ISTNC believes that it'll be out by July 27th. Every other reseller that has commented is looking more toward the middle or end of August as a more reliable guesstimate. I guess we'll see within a short time who's info is more accurate.
Also, some resellers will take the time to test the systems out before sending them on their way. I think I'd rather be assured to a greater degree that my machine works as it should and costs what I want it to, than receive it a few days earlier, anyway.
A more prudent approach, no???

My thoughts exactly... Yeah, I'd say the end of August also.

I hope it comes out EARLY and slaps all you nah-sayers in the face!

I don't blame you though... ASUS isn't exactly known for their... *clears throat* punctuality.

I would love it to come out, dont get me wrong. I want to hear the reviews from ProPortable and Geared2Play & who ever else. Plus I want to get one also, I've already got the current one.
Actually I've got my girlfriend over in Taiwan right now (for a business trip). I've got her looking for a Z70V refresh right now. I doubt it's out released over there, even if it was, I hear the prices over there are pretty steep on electronics. My buddy from there usually buys his stuff over here and then brings it back over there. I told her if she finds any cool laptops or gadgets to take a pic and email me.

I dont mean to kill your hopes, but its been announced that the Z70v refresh will NOTbe equiped with a DVI port, but will have internal Bluetooth

*
ASUS also has notified us that these units WILL NOT come equipped with the DVI port as previously stated. The DVI option will not be made available until late September. The units will however still come equipped with the ATI X700 video card and internal Bluetooth*

Actually... the DVI version of the refresh should be coming out septemper-october.

*edit* i guess I only read the first line I think he'll probably wait for DVI version to come out.

My centimates on dead pixels? If you dont see it in writing dont expect to get your screen replaced. As far as i am aware every single reseller conforms to asus dp policy and offer their own policy for a charge. Tell me something. Notebooks like the z80k, m5n, z33a have a notoriously high dp rate. Z80k has about 50% chance as it stands 2 months ago (when we stopped selling them) of getting a single dead pixel. Your telling me that despite not having this in their policy rick will replace everyones screen whoever calls in and tells him they have a dead pixel? I ve seen this comment about many resellers. "My dealer will replace your screen for one dp". Where is this in writing? I think the preferential treatment was provded for you. I may have done the same thing knowing that you can parade around forums and tell everyone we did not replace your dp. You may want to confirm that this is their policy to everyone for everything they sell before posting it in a live forum. Forgive me for not being ricks preffered customer but i see it clearly states in their policy just like it does in ours and every other dealers that "manufacturers dp policy applies to whitebooks. I would say this is a bit of misinfomation here to everyday consumers excluding your self as you did get very good preffered treatment.

Where is the dvi thing comming from? In the history of asus i ve never ever seen them change a chassy on a particular model without completely renaming it, chaning the price and having a delay. Where is this news of possible dvi port comming from? If it came from asus take away 90% credibility from that.
Ooh and by the way if asus were the ones to say "sorry we made a mistake its not comming with a dvi port after all" I would not hold my breath they may be wrong again. None of anything they say is set in concrete until the full shipment arrives at their door and they take their time to post it in the agenda pae for resellers only. Even that was wrong already 2 times in the past half year.

You've been too condescending lately for me to even bother responding. Go find something better to do then pick fights.
Who is picking a fight? Is it not a valid question? Do people who read this thread who know nothing about the situation have a right to know the truth? Are you saying that this is Ricks official policy or not? Will he replace everyones screen for every notebook if they have one non conformant pixel? Simple question. I would like to know. If they are i would say its time to change our policy as well.
This is not me picking a fight. This is me being concerned about the welfare of unknowing customers. Can you guess how many times i had a phone call where the customer told me "your competitor offers free dp check do you guarantee no dp as well". I am very tired of hearing bs because some people choose to take things out of context and i am tired of having people call on and say "well your competitor will take a screen back for even 1 dead pixel". Guess where they read this? If this can be confirmed that resellers are changing screens for a dead pixel i would have to change our policy as well. Otherwise what you said before is exactly what it looks like.

Listen Pal...All I know is that when I initially bought my Z71V from him, I had a conversation about dead pixels. They check it over initially, and send it to me. If I found one within 30 days, I could get it replaced. That’s probably not "official" enough for YOU, but it was just fine for me.
*edit* statement was off topic *edit*

Yeah, I dont think ISTNC would take back your system for only 1 dead pixel and also pay for shipping? I think you're screwed with a dead pixel for life. I can be wrong, but I've never heard of anyone who would do that. If they did, I would actually buy from them.
As for the DVI info- Proportables said that it may have an option for it on this thread. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=20560 But I understand your point about changing the body casing would make it an entirely new system. I have no idea about that. Maybe it might be a set up like the HP ZD8000 where it's external or something. Who knows, I dont need it anyways.

hey madmike, nice of you to join us

Well that’s what they told me, and I have no reason not to trust them. They have been nothing short of excellence and I wouldn't have been "screwed with a dead pixel for life". I think you were wrong. And its one of the reasons why I did buy from them.
Well nothing against anyone, if someone was to tell me that they would guarantee even 1 pixel, heck I would buy from them. I'm agreeing with you. But I never read it on their website that they would do such a thing. But then again, you did buy 3 from them and if I was in business, I would do the same for a loyal customer. I just dont know if they would give such a guarantee to a newbie off the street.

AAaah... alright... I understand.

I was just saying I thought you were wrong with the statement that I would be stuck with the dead pixel.

I actually received 3 units from them... however only kept 2 of them. My first unit was a Z71V with a faulty card reader, my second one was a properly working Z71V (the one I’m on now), and the 3rd one is my sisters Z63A she got for her birthday. So I've only purchased 2, but have received 3 units.

Well back to the original topic....

I am a college student looking for a decent laptop who is also debating to preorder or not. I have several specs in mind and the refresh seems to meet them all. However, I am heading back to college August 12th. Do you think I would get it by then? Or is it a bad gamble? Or is your guess as good as mine?

The Sager 4881 and the Sager 3880 come in as a close second choice. The specs & price are very similar, but I think the refresh is lighter and thinner.

Here is what I am looking for:

Any suggestions are appreciated.

I would say the newer Z70V will not be in your hands by August 12th... even if you did pre-order.
