What does the caveat about H8 and S3 firmware mean?
Thanks

Look in the sager general section about the updated fan firmware

I assume it means

I assume it refers to the new option in the bios for continuous or automatics mode, which I beleive they call what the fn-f2 toggle does in the H8S8 firmware. http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...t=93758&page=1

this bios (1.05) F.U.B.A.R.'d my 9860

If you don't know what "FUBAR" means ...(f***ed up beyond all recognition). I downloaded and installed the 1.05 bios.

Upon reboot, I get something like "press CTRL-F to enter Fast Build Utility". Doing that brings me to a screen that is scary ... i get 5 options such as "rebuild an array", "repair an array", "delete an array" ...

If I just wait long enough (about 30 seconds) when I see the "press ctrl-f to enter fast build utility", windows then tries to boot up, but always results in a blue screen and i have to hard power down.

I'm waiting for sager to call me back, but thought i would post this to see if anyone knows what's going on with my computer.

I have a sager 9860 3.6ghz 5xx chip w/ 2gb ram.

Thanks all!

FUBAR solved 1.05 bios

Ok - here's the solution. It seems that the 1.05 bios, by default, when installed, changes your system setup to RAID. My Sager has only 1 hard drive and was configured as ATA and not RAID.

The solution then was to enter F2 (system setup) and change back to ATA. Problem solved.

WHEW!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the case with every bios update the 9860 has had.

nuh-uh ... not with the 1.04 bios update! It worked fine for me without my having to go in and change from RAID to ATA.

Does anyone know what was changed from 1.0.4 to 1.0.5? Is there some kind of change log anywhere we can look at?

edit: Just finished reading through the new posts in the fan bios thread, so I guess the first question is answered, though I'd still be interested to see a detailed change log, if such a thing exists.

Honestly, if it's just to get the automatic/continuous feature in the bios setup, why the h3ll even bother upgrading? Not much of an upgrade, if you ask me.

My 9880 that I got 2 weeks ago, came with the new fan firmware upgrade but NOT the new bios. So what? Works like a charm.

If you want continuous, just hit fn + f2 and away you go. Want to go back? Hit the same thing again. Works great.

If there isn't any other benefit to upgrading to the new bios, why bother if you already have the new fan firmware?

Maybe you should read the thread instead of making arbitrary comments.

... yeah, but what you don't know about me is that I think the STUPIDEST saying in the world is the one "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". Cowardly <grin> I much more believe in, "if it ain't broke, break it, then fix it and make it superior".

So that's why I go delving into areas of which I know nothing ... how else to learn than the hard way?! It's the best way and most excellent fun!
