Turn on the Power, Fans Come on, Stay On, But the system itself will not boot. Anybody have any ideas?!

I know I was involved in the post also titled Sager Won't Boot, But it seems like my problem is entirely different than the one previously discussed.

I have a 5680 - 2.4ghz 1 Gig Ram 60gig 7200RPM

Ok, I need help here ASAP.

I decided to try and investigate this myself, here's what's happening.
I opened up the keyboard and took out the top Memory Chip.

The system booted right up....
Then I went and took out hte bottom chip and replaced it with the first one i took out (to test and see if hte one i removed first was bad)

The system started right up with out a problem....

BUT!!!!! if both Memory Chips are in....... The system will not boot.
So does this have something to do with Dual Channel?! From what I can tell both chips work just fine. I tried reversing them (top to bottom, bottom top) But still not booting...
But if i only leave 1 chip in there, the system is fine.

I have 2X 512 MB Apacer CL2.5 Memory

PLEASE HELP!

Have you tried the remove-battery / reset the CMOS trick? There was a post on how to do that somewhere around here (basically remove power/battery and hold power button for 20 seconds or something).

Try that and see if it helps (clearing the CMOS),

Not a techie, so don't take this for gospel, but as far as I know if your ram is not "matched" properly this can happen. If you search the forums other people have had this problem. Call Sager and I believe they will cross ship a new chip to you.

I have "matched" Ram I would assume, only because I'ts worked for the past 2 months with out a problem....
But so Long as I leave only 1 chip in....
It runs fine, (despite the fact every time if boots, i need to re'enable HyperThreading in the Bios.

I'll try your suggestion myrkat. Thanks So Far...
It's not nearly as big of an emergency now that I can at least get the system to turn on... Now it's just a matter of giving it, it's memory back

sounds like an issue with the dual channel.
try to reset the cmos if you can. other than that i don't know how to troubleshoot that on a notebook

Well, problem solved it seems... The CMOS thingy did it.

Thanks Myrkat for that little bit of info, I didn't know you could do that. But everything seems to be working just fine now.

This post is now officially dead.. If anybody else has the same problem I did. Just do as Myrkat said.

Heh, didn't see your second post when I made mine, but it does sound like something in the RAM went bad or is screwing up the Dual-ness. Could the mem controller be kaput?

I suppose the obvious is to get a matched-pair and try them. Unfortunately, it ain't cheap... if the resetting CMOS doesn't work (mind your HT setting), give Sager a call or (better) an e-mail and they'll probably end up swapping your RAM for you. If they do, talk about cross-shipping so you are not without a computer (no ram).
