SPECviewperf - What is it?

Hello everyone.

I stumbled accross specbench.org and saw their set of benchmark applications. Can anyone tell me what exactly the SPECviewperf app is? It looked to me that I couldnt run the SPECapc benches due to the lack of the programs they are designed for, but I was confused about SPECviewperf. It is almost 300mb for a full download and I was wondering if it is actually a standalone bench that I could download and run.

Thanks.

Mikhail

P.S. I am actually trying to get as many different benches to compile as much info as possible on my 5680 machine. Check out this thread: the http://talknotebooks.com/showthread.php3?threadid=9433

Wayyyyy too scientific for me, but I'm sure you've browsed some of the site info and judging from your own web site can decipher what they're talking about?

Lol. Actually, I did, but still have no clue. I guess downloading it will be the only way to find out.

If you figure it out, be sure to also figure out how to tell us mortals what the heck it is and then do so.

Spec Viewperf is a benchmark for high end 3D applications like solid modelers and animation programs. I've seen it used on many sites like Tomshardware, etc. in their benchmarks. I think it is mostly geared towards OpenGL apps, but I'm not sure. I did load it on my current computers and my 5680 to get a comparison. The main program that I use for work is Pro/ENGINEER which is included in the benchmark and the one I was most concerned with. You can download and run it without owning all of the programs. However, you can also download the model files if you own the program(s) to do more extensive benchmarking. I have version 7.1, which I think is the latest. I've run all of the Spec benchies on my 5680 and they all run fine. Give it a shot. I'm curious to see how your numbers compare to mine. If you don't want to load it, let me know and I'll send you my results to include on your site.
