Extremely Frustrated and Disappointed

Just sent this to FedEx and Alienware. Please read this and let me know if this is not the first time that this has happened.

To Whom It May Concern:

June 30th marks the very day I decided to invest nearly $4000.00 on an Alienware PC. Alienware reviews were impressive and the quality of their tech support and the comfort of a 4-year warranty seemed well worth the cost. After working hard, selling my old computer, and selling numerous items on Ebay, I finally saved enough money to purchase my dream machine.
So lets cut to the chase. I sent the money via UPS Second Day Air (money orders) to Alienware on June 30th and they arrived on July 1st. Due to the fact tat it was the 4th of July holiday weekend my order didn’t progress until the following week. My order finally arrived to the production phase after about a week. Finally after my motherboard and some other parts were backordered and the technicians at Alienware worked out some problems with the computer it was shipped. I felt like a child again and the excitement was tremendous due to the fact that I had waited 2 weeks + for my dream machine to be put together. So July 14th arrives and it ships!
So I get my tracking info and finally it is shipped out. Alienware is about 2 hours from where I live, Marathon Florida Keys. So the shipping info stated it would arrive the next day and in fact FedEx told me they ship anywhere in the State of Florida 1 day delivery. To sum it up the order was shipped FedEx Ground Home-Delivery which allows FedEx to deliver on Saturdays incase it didn’t get here on Friday. So Friday I woke up and notice the tracking info said shipped to Orlando. I was curious why it was shipped to Orlando more than 7 hours from my hometown. I called FedEx and I was told it was placed on the wrong truck. So after several attempts and talking to many representatives at FedEx they assured me a Saturday Delivery. I must note that one Fedex rep called me and was extremely rude to me and I didn’t get her name because she hung up on me.
Well Saturday came and I called FedEx. This is when they told me that they LOST the package. A $4000.00 piece of equipment LOST?! Well now I am told that the package is lost and I would have to wait until they scan it at the next HUB, which could be as far West as California. Anxiety, anger, frustration, and complete and utter disappointment only barely describe my feelings for this situation and experience with FedEx. I only wish Alienware would OFFER THE CUSTOMER WITH SHIPPING CARRIER OPTIONS because FedEx has lost my order and by the time this piece of equipment reaches my home (only 2 hours away from my house) it will be damaged due to the fact it has traveled clear across the country just to get to my house in the same state and practically the same city. I am very disappointed. I am sure Alienware makes amazing computers and I don’t hold them responsible for this mistake however like I said I would love for Alienware to ship their computers second day air or use a more reliable shipping service. So far this has been a horrifying experience and I am only afraid that if I find out my computer is in California or another state I will have to cancel my order because I am moving in a week to go to college and need a computer fast. At the moment I am using my neighbors computer he built himself and the same person who advised me to build my own computer. FedEx is a disappointment.

Fed Ex are the people you have an issue with. I know for a fact that AW will be all over this with top people. Hang in there.

yeah agreed, i think the problem is solely on fed-ex's side of things, AW should be able to sort it out though, i think fedex owes you a very big appology as well.

it would be nice to see AW offer several options for shipping... but that wouldnt really help you now that yours has shipped and that fedex are being idiots. give AW a call and get them on this case.

Thanks for the quick response. I called AW yesterday and they told me that they could not do much because it was in FedEx's hands. Note: I know AW is a great company and I am siked about getting my system but for future purchases and customers of AW it would be nice to have additional shipping options at the customers expense.

I did just get off the phone with a FedEx tracker.

This is his quote:

Saturday July 16th

"In the best case scenario your system is already sitting at your local FedEx warehouse but has not been scanned and will be shipped on Monday. Sometimes the local FedEx ground that has a contract with us does not scan the package until it is actually delivered to you. But we can call them on Monday and check to see if your package is there at the warehouse. However it is possible that the package was sent on the wrong truck and could be in California by the 20th. By then we will know where it is most definitely. But call us back on Monday."

I also found out that in the Florida Keys we do not have home delivery. The package was sent to a ground hub and that is why I may not get it until Monday (if it was sent to the right place). Well only time will tell. By the way this is a great community and once I do get my system I hope to share some valuable info. I posted my specs below:

If you had ordered an ALX rig it would have been hand-delivered by AW midgies.

Looks like a sweet system...good luck and hope to see you on battlefield 2 soon!!

Why would anyone pay with a money order instead of a credit card? With a credit card you always have the option of putting a hold on payment.

Natman

I hope this works out eventually for you. Stay on here and report back to the Alienware reps that are probably following this up as we speak...erm...type.
Shit happens...and always to the undeserving...All of us here are pulling for you dude.

Lotsa luck and keep us informed.

Due to the limit on my credit card ($1100) the credit card was out of question and it was much easier to use money orders because I had the money in rinkled up cash ready to be spent

I do hope to play BF 2 ASAP! Damn I only hope I get this thing fast and it's not in CA!
well i couldnt get a credit card, u normally have to be 21 in the uk, im 19 so i had to do money order, costing me mearly $60. Also not everyone can get credit cards for various reasons.

Good news is i managed to bitch my way into making the bank give me one.

FedEx contracts their "home delivery" service out - it's been a disappointment.
That is a perfect config...maybe a little overkill on the RAM and the 4 year warranty, but its really a sweet deal...you didnt go for the FX-57 and dual 7800 GTX which would have added a thousand bucks easy....but you still have the option of the SLI later. Good work.

I hope everything works out for you .

Ya I am looking forward to Monday. I hope it gets here. I went with the 4-year warranty because I’m not the greatest when it comes to computers. So while I’m off at college I can at least have the comfort of AW tech support and if i ever need to upgrade I can always have them do it under warranty.

I went with a single 7800 because I figured it would work just fine. Didn't want to fork out another 600 bucks. Maybe in the future I will. Does anyone have just a single 7800? If so can you tell me a bit about its performance? I have looked at the benchmarks and they are quite impressive.

Now i would like to compare my current PC to the new AW coming:

Current PC: Memory 512 MB, Nvidia geforce 2 64mb, Pentium 1.8 ghz, two 40 gb HD's and an old soundblaster sound card. I got windows 2000 as well. The case is some basic metal case with terrible airflow. The computer at idle runs about 115 degrees Ferenheit and no warranty

AW Setup (I Know I already posted it but I wanted to show the comparison)

Warranty: 4-Year AlienCare Toll-Free 24/7 Phone Support with Onsite Service Bundle with AlienAutopsy and Respawn

I love the AW specials:
[1] $100 Instant Rebate; on AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 Processor
[1] $400 Mail-in Rebate; on select desktop systems
[1] Free Shipping Mail-In Rebate; on Alienware systems excluding peripherals - Continental U.S. Only

It's gonna be a helluva step up. Like someone said previously...AW packs their machines like they are carrying bombs, so it should be ok. Unless they decide to be like Ace Ventura delivering packages.

Congrats, enjoy, and welcome to the forums!

Sounds good. Ya I have heard that AW packs their comps very well. One question though...the plastic cardholders in the computer holding the gpu etc. Should I remove those once I get the computer or just leave them on? Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Leave them...no question.

Sweeeeeeeeeeet

That is one beauty of a system, man, and there is no such thing as having too much memory! And I wouldn't worry about your system being damaged as a lot of us on this forum live on the west coast and our rigs have arrived in perfect condition... BTW, Hawks Cay on Duck Key is as close to heaven as I've ever been! Why would you ever leave the Keys?!!
