Just got my Vantec Lapcool 2 Notebook Cooler

Shipped to my house recently, and man, what a difference!

I wanted to see how well this thing worked, so I promptly put it under my lappy, set the fans to max RPM, and had a nice long session of Counter-Strike : Source.

I'm pleased to report that the mean temperature after a long gaming session has dropped considerably, by about 2 - 5 degrees Celcius. After gaming, I would have temperatures ranging from 36 to 39 degress celcius. Now, with the cooler, I get temps of roughly 33 to 36 degrees Celcius. Of course, hot days make it worse.

I find this to be a great investment and am sure it will increase the longevity of my notebook.

Hopefully I get some pics up of my laptop sitting on the cooler in the gallery.

excellent... sounds like it is working just how it should be. im glad that you like your new investment and i am sure it will improve the lifespan of your machines.

its also nice to hear that you have had good luck with tigerdirect since i have heard many horror stories as of late and their ratings have been in the toilet, im glad that they have made at least a couple of satisfied customers. enjoy your new equipment and hopefully it will help you with making your machines last as long as possible.

Glad you find it helpful because I certainly do!

Does it really make that much of a difference?

well heat can kill your machien so it is best to minimize it.... lowering the heat even a few degrees is a good thign, granted it cant be proven that it will add a significant amount of time to the lifespan of your system it cant hurt to do it and be safe. in all reality heat and electronics dont mix, i have seen far to much in the way of electorincs die because of overheating than any other single cause, so the safest and best bet is to keep it as cool as possible.

a side note that gamers should be even more aware of this since gaming on a laptop produces alot of heat as it is very stressful on the system, so if you are gaming this becomes even more important. if nothing else the heat can cause your system to shut itself off to avoid overheating and well i would not want that as i was gaming....

I will post pics in the gallery later on this evening.

@ Fidget: I have bought a few things from Tiger Direct and have never had a problem. I have heard that they are really bad when it comes to rebates, but I've never sent one in to them.

I too have heard a few negatives concerning Tiger Direct, mainly regarding warranty issues. Then again, warranties are a sticky subject as many want far more coverage than provided. Deb and I had a hard time getting the work done on her 2400, it was only because the original salesperson had made false statements concerning her extended coverage and our tag-team approach to complaining that we got anything done. I pity the sod we dealt with as Deb was on one side eloquently tearing a strip off him and threatening BBB, lawyers and pulling out receipts of everything she had purchased there while I on the other side gave him the technical drill quoting prices on the parts required and where I could get them while comparing all of this to the exorbitant cost of her extended warranty! OOps I am far off topic now!!!
Yes Vantec good...
The only thing she does not like is the blue, she will probably spend the extra bucks for black.
Look forward to the pics!

I also got the notebook Vantech Notebook Cooler from tigerdirect, and I have a question for those of you that are using one. Is all you hear the fan noise (i.e. Noise of air running through fan), or do you also get a slight bearing noise?

Bearing noise? I'm not exactly sure what you mean.

All I really hear is the fan noise, not much of anything else...
Aint those fans to noisee? Do you know how much dB it creates? (I meen is it specified somwhere in the manual).
I'm plannig to make a cooler to but I'm sik of fan noises so I guess i'm gonna stick to my original plan. An aluminium plate - flat box shaped - with one or two small fans wich are conected to the AC adapter. I'm still thinking of building it but my lappy arrives only today (i hoope) and only after that I'm gonna decide.
your idea is essentially what the cooler is, most are aluminum with one or two fans that just blow up onto the bottom of the laptop to keep it cool.
You can't tell from the pictures how it really looks like. Do you have picture only with the cooler?
...OK no need! I'v found it on google!

There's the noise of the fan, i.e. the 'white noise' created by the air being pushed through the fan. This is normal and very constant.
Then, at lowest fan speed settings, I also get a variable noise that is mechanical in nature. It sounds sort of like a bearing noise. The best way to describe it is as a whirring (don't know if that is spelled right), or almost the same sound that plastic gogs would make as they're running. I really only ever hear it at lowest settings, and it disappears when I shut of the laptop cooler.

The bearing noise might come from the fan if it runs with ball bearing and not fluid bearing like HDDs.
Usually apears on low spead because on higy speeds the baldes of the fan become more centered because of the force or the spinning.
a nice simple way of puting it sutozsolt, i only wish that all fans were running on fluid bearings since it would make things so much quieter.
Yeah!
My desktop is a duron and I had to mount a really impressive full aluminium cooler on it, only the blades are plastic, + powersuply fan + videocard fan (already changed twice - gf 2 mx400) = when you want to listen some music late night they just annoy you.
Normally I don't hear them because of the 60+60 W (real) from the speakers!!!

Just out of curiosity, does your laptop have intake fans on the BOTTOM of the chassis?
