i went to the local compusa today to check out the s460...the sales person keeps on trying to convince me that the nvidia 6200 tc in the s460 is a "second generation" express card that has DEDICATED 128 mb vram and if a prog need more than 128mb the gpu will borrow from the 512 ddr2 ram...i thought that the 6200tc is a 32mb dedicated with a 96 shared...is the sales person trying to scam me?...next he told me that the s460 is superior to the s360 because it is a lot more responsive than the s360 mainly becuase of the ddr2 ram, 5400rpm hd, adn 533mhz bus....now how much of a performance diff is there really?..taken into account that the s460 is pretty warm even doing nothing...and the short batt life (salesperson says he gets 3.5 hr on the s460 and 5-6 hr on s360) is the tradeoff worth it? i am a sophmore in college...batt life and cooling is very important...gaming is some what secondary. please give me a unbiased reply

You are right 32mb/12mb TC. The standard units has a battery life out of box of about 2:45, you can undervolt and get 3:45(screen dimmed, wireless on)-4(with wireless off)h, which is far less then the sony S360, its is acutally less responsive out of box because sony has the Speedstep governor set very conservatively to control the 20% percent increase in heat, but with a bit of undervoting and RMClock you can get ride of alot of the heat, still the hd runs at a nice and tosty 49-56C. the Sanoma fully "pimped" out as it is in the S460 is 10-15(maybe on the 15%) faster, you can go for the double cap battery. of course you can get a double cap battery for the s360 and get even more battery life.

basically the fu**er was lying to you

but for all its drawbacks the S460 is latest in tech, and very feature rich, MUCH better sound, Dual layer DVD burner, Sanoma DX9c, DDR2, faster HD, SATA.

I am very happy i went with it.

thanks

I wonder if there is ever a “second generation” nvidia 6200 tc with 128 mb dedicated, maybe for desktop? Anyone know? Do you guys think the S360 will last me for 4-5 years, especially with the coming of Windows Longhorn? I know the s460 is faster but if I’m not running things like photoshop, autocad…I think I want more batt life and less heat. Anyways, I am more worried if the S360, a last year model will last me at least 4-5 years. Thanks
