Sony VAIO VGN-A690 vs Dell Inspiron 9300?

Can someone help (hopefully at least with technicalities of the video cards).

I hope to use my laptop purchase for (in order of importance):
1. mp3 playback with an external soundcard.
2. as a spare tv (I currently use directv) and HD is a consideration.
3. as a semi portable unit to surf the net while watching my bigscreen.

I don't see these notebooks could differ much for items 1. and 3.

So for item 2.:
Sony VAIO VGN-A690 vs Dell Inspiron 9300:
128mb ATI Mobility Radeon X600 vs 256 mb nVidia GeForce 6800 Go
Xbrite vs Truelife
tv tuner's? any difference? Sony has more inputs.

Both have similar prices around $1700.00 and I like the large screen size. Does anyone have a better option in terms of the screen, video etc. that isn't much more expensive?

Dell xps gen2? Seems like right now I would have to pay $700 more for the xps gen2 plus pick up my own external tv tuner and media center xp 2005 or pay $1000.00 more to upgrade the xps gen2 by buying the from the home version side of Dell.

the go6800 is much more powerful for gaming...
the x600 is good for what you need it for..
the screen on the sony will be better than dell's.. sony has been known for the best screens.. xbrite and truelife both means they have a glossy finish...

Well, for gaming the 6800 would kill the x600, but if that's not a problem, go with the Sony. The Sony will definately have the better screen. However, I'm wondering if you're really going to pay that much. I would assume that you didn't plan on using a coupon for the Dell. Otherwise, the Dell would be cheaper. Sony's prices are extremely high.

So I'm gathering that the video card doesn't make as much difference in terms of use as a tv monitor as the screen does? Is that right?

Freak4Dell: I was going to use a 750 off coupon on the Dell but the price also includes upgrades (cpu, RAM, tv tuner + XP media center 2005, battery, internal wireless) all of would make the 9300 very similar to the A690.

Buy the lowest amount of memory from dell and then upgrade yourself. You can purchase memory from vendors like newegg.com, zipzoomfly.com, outpost.com, crucial.com.

I believe I saw dell charging $750!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for 2GB RAM. Absolutely ridiculous. You can get 2GB for $250.

Yeah I noticed that regarding the RAM, I was going to do that If I went with the Dell (that would probably make the Dell a little cheaper but I am more worried about the screen issues than the $100 I would save.
