A question about the touchpad.

I'm looking to buy my daughter a laptop for university and she has a problem with the touchpad on them. When she types she has a tendency to rub the surface of the touchpad which results in movement of the curser. She'd like a laptop that you can disable the touchpad and use an external mouse exclusivley. My question is: Can you disable the touchpad on laptops or is that a brand specific issue? If it can't be disabled does anyone have a solution to the problem?

You can disable the touchpad on a TOSHIBA Equium A60 don't know any others that can do this.

you can disable the touchscreen on every laptop
but on some it's easier than on others.
eg: on acers you can press Fn+F7 (i think) and the touchpad
is disabled.

I'm pretty sure you can disable the touchpad on any laptop... either from the control panel, touchpad program, or bios. It depends on what laptop you have.

I have a button on my hp ze4610us that is right above the touchpad that disables/enables it. All laptops in the hp ze4xxx line and Compaq 2xxx line have this feature, to my knowledge. ALso, i'm pretty sure the hp ze5xxx's do too. I'm sure other manufactors have models with the same thing. Just go to bestbuy or compusa or circuit city and take a look at some models. Also, ANY touchpad should be able to be disabled through device manager and/or bios
