With all tweaks, websurfing & office my CPU temp now stabilizes at 45°C with a room temperature of 30°C, and the CPU takes about 15 minutes to reach that temperature.

What prevented my HDD to spin down was the HDD temperature utility, apparently just reading HDD temp prevented the power down...
Finally got rid of ATI PowerPlay and used underclocking in 2D with ATITrayTools to get to 75/75 (getting lower than 50/50 made the thing unstable), still plenty fast for 2D though.

So using ATITrayTools instead of ATI PowerPlay can reduce hard drive use also?

Can you make the fan stop during normal use(web surfing etc.) when running of the battery?

No, just forgot to skip a line, ATITrayTools allows to underclock the graphics card more than ATI PowerPlay will underclock it. For 2D stuff, even when underclocked as much as possible, the graphics card is still plenty fast, so that's not an issue and allows saving a few watts and °C.

Haven't tried any utilities to manually control the fan, with my current setting doing office/browsing with a room temp of 30°C, fan is silent for 30 min of usage, then it goes a little faster and stay as that level (you can hear it, but it's soft).

Mouse batteries are standard AA, so I guess you can use NiMh and a standard charger. My first couple of alkalines still aren't showing signs of weakness though. There is a small switch under the mouse to turn it off, but since I have regularly forgotten to switch them off, I guess the mouse switches off on its own.

I'm planning to leave the W3V on over the night, in my small dormroom, to download stuff to either the internal HD or an external. Would it be possible to put t in a "cool mode" so the fan is completly of over the night?

Do you think this is feasible?

It would be feasible, but not a good idea. If the your hard drive overheats, since you are downloading, it may have some problems. Usually though, it shouldn't overheat, even with the fan off.
