Sony T250PS and Dell X1 pics. IBM T41p also makes an appearance in a few pics.

Great pics, thanks.

They really illustrate to beg the question: WHY can't they shoehorn a DVD player/CD burner into that X1?

I really wish there was a glossy (movie quality) screen machine out there that weighed/sized like a X1, but had a built in DVD so I could watch movies on the plane without having to burn them down to HD.

No one makes a 12.1" widescreen machine with a DVD in it that weighs in and sizes good... the Sony S is way better than most of the 12.1 widescreens out there, sizewise and otherwise, but I'd like something with the Sony S specs, in a lightweight, smaller package with the 12.1 screen. Darnit, when will someone make that?

How do you like the X1 screen as compared to the Sony?

The X1 is a touch thinner than the T250, though it isn't entirely evident in the pictures. I know that the Samsung version (the Dell is based on a Samsung) is even thinner, so I'm guessing a DVD drive wouldn't fit easily, or not without a lot of rejigging. The Dell is thicker than the Samsung b/c of the "sealed" keyboard and the reinforced lid--to better withstand the laptop being shoved in airplane seats, for example.

I was in a similar boat. I like the DVD features of the T series and the bigger screen + keyboard of the X1. So I use my X1 to do more of my typing and use my T for watching movies and so on.

For the X1 screen, I like it. Less glare, but also less bright. It's like a normal matte-finished LCD while the T has the xbrite for nicer DVD viewing. The X1 is bright enough for my purposes... minor light bleeding on the edges (when the screen is black) but it doesn't bother me.

Nice thinkpad

that is the sexiest looking Dell I've ever seen.... oh wait that's because it's made by SAMSUNG.

Nice pics. I really dig the silver/airy white T250.

700m would prob be your closest option, it has the truelife screen (12.1 inches in widescreen format) and is prety damn small, not as small/thin as x1, but it is thin, (it also has a dvd on it) it also uses full voltage P-M's so youll get some good performance out of it.

What's the screen quality difference? Can you take a picture of the screens turned on for comparison? Thanks

but youll need an extended battery to get from california to new york. And if you buy both a regular and an extended, you can get all the way from New York to London(assuming you spend a couple hours going over the lifevest, eating, peeing, stretching, yelling at the kid behind you whos kicking your chair, joining hte mile high club, etc.)

Hey sorry for the delay. Been a little swamped.

Sony T250P, Dell X1, Sony TX651P

IBM X41T, Dell X1, Sony TX651P

The XBRITES on the Sony are much brighter but then also more reflective.

All IBMs so far have regular matte-finish screens--they aren't uberbrite. This includes the t41 and the x41t that I have.

so the x1 doesnt have a glossy xbrite type screen?

It's a typical Dell LCD: washed out and faded.

Yes, it's funny after experiencing 4 dells: 8600, 600m, 700m and X1. Washed out and faded Dell LCDs.

Have you had your eyes checked recently, because the only LCDs i see that are "washed out" as you say, are sony's. I dont think you know the meaning of washed out.

And btw... DELL does not make the LCDs, Samsung and LG do. I have a Samsung LCD right now and it is more vivid than my friends Sony. Its not brighter than the sony. But it looks better.

I suppose you do

I'd have to agree here. The Sony is washed out here. Great contrast with whites vs blacks, but subtle details like like grays become white and get washed out.

Its a picture...how can any of you tell which one is washed out
post #20 of 25
Because the monitor shows the exact same picture on both screens, and the Dell photo is showing more subtle colors where as the Xbrite seems to be just turning these colors to white.

But yeah, it's best to see the comparisons in person, and not through a photograph.
