HELP!!! Flashed GPU is dead i think

hypersonic posted a new flash for the nvidia 6800 DDR3 model. So I downloaded the iso and burned it with nero. then i booted the computer using the disc and it automaticall flashed it, i didn't even have to click "y" because it did it for me, all automatic. It flashed it and then rebooted. Now I get NO PICTURE AT ALL. Just a black screen. The computer boots into Windows & all....I can hear the windows start up, but it doesnt work. I'm thinking that Hypersonic released a bad flash. It was originally a floppy format flash that they seemed to have made into an ISO. I have so many files for my accounting class on that computer and I MUST get into it. Anybody have this problem. is there something that im missing? anybody have the orignal flasher that may fix this bad flash?

o yeah, and hypersonic's tech support with this issue was absolutly terrible. the guy sounded like he didnt wanna help at all.

Have you checked to see if the external DVI interface is affected? Certainly a long shot, but worth checking. Also, was the flash a necessary fix (i.e, to cure a specific problem or set of problems), or optional? Either way, if no disclaimers were given, Hypersonic should be responsible for the repair.

If you absolutely need access to any files on the hard disk (and have not backed up said files previously to an alternate location), remove the drive, and make use of an external enclosure. Or, if the files happen to be in a shared directory, you should be able to access them from any machine on the same workgroup.

Good luck.

Tm,

Removal of the drives would not be productive as his sig states that are configured as RAID-0.

I did miss that. Thank you for pointing that out, Gary. And while I did miss that, it actually is possible to reconstruct the array in a dual enclosure using software RAID. Possible, but difficult.

Frankly, using a striped array for anything as mission critical as homework is ill advised at best.

do you see the boot screen at least, the bios boot screen i mean? if so, press fn+f7 when windows loads to see if for some reason it is stuck in an external monitor mode, causing the screen not to show up.

you can also plug in an external monitor before you turn on the computer. this should allow you to view from another screen. go into the bios if you can to check things out. maybe you can put settings back to defualt. if you plug in another monitor with the dvi to vga adapter and the monitor does not turn on during a boot then your card is dead....i think

last step would be to remove and re-instal the video card.

You can use NVFlash to reflash your bios back. Search in the dell XPS/9300 forums to find the procedure on how to do it. You are going to need someone to get you a copy of their bios.

I have moved this thread to the appropriate area. Pat@Hypersonic should be able to take a look at this and see what recommendations he has.

If this is the same update as was posted a month or so ago, I have done the same on my system and didn't have a problem. Could have been that something got corrupted during the flashing of the card. If so, my guess is that it will have to be reflashed. The problem is, if you can't see anything - or the card is not passing the BIOS post, then it will have to be replaced.

Lets see what Pat has for a recommendation and go from there. Good luck.

ratmyr, in your sig you state pc 4300 533 ram, shouldn't it read pc 4200?

Yeah... Not sure what I did, but it looks like I hit the wrong key. Thanks for pointing it out. Don't want someone confused when looking at the signature.

i would have tried that but i don't have a dvi connector nor a tv that supports dvi. im on campus so my 20inch tv has component & s-video and thats it.
your ex 7 might have came with a dvi to vga adapter. you can use that and connect it to any computer monitor at the campus.

nope....all it came with was an s-video to component & svideo. i have about 2 or 3 of them now from all the rma's. did any of you by any chance try flashing your vbios with the one on hypersonic's site? does it work for you?

RaiderRod:

We triple tested the VBios Update on various systems and everything was fine with it. I am not sure what happened, other than the file may have gotten corrupted.
What I am certain about is that your case is being handled by our support team.
At Hypersonic we cover the shipping BOTH ways on any RMA that is issued. The reason you were charged the extra amount was due to the fact that you wanted it expedited to early morning delivery. Alas, that point is moot as well, since the fee for overnight was waved.

I can safely say I have absolutely no idea of the above comment's intended meaning in the context of the present discussion.

I was having a similar problem with my 9700 and the solution required booting into safemode. It might be a long shot but see this thread if its the same problem http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...2&page=1&pp=15
