If I did improperly apply the AS5, it kind of seems to have made little difference...I just wrenched my heat sink off the processor (not literally "wrenched," but there was some resistance) to check how the goop had spread. It appeared pretty much perfectly spread around on the heat spreader, so it does appear that something has gone right with the installation. As for thermal performance, I can say with certainty that in a house at 70 degrees Farenheit, the fans stay off for about five-seven minutes at a stretch, and then one fan turns on at a low-moderate RPM for about the same time, then the notebook goes back to silent. This seems perfectly acceptable to me, and from what I've read on the forums, it's less than most other fans turn on. I'll install Henrik's thermal monitor program real quick and give you some processor heat numbers in a few here.
