Two points ixian,
The 8890 FW port is also unpowered although it is the normal size plug, so you can't charge your iPod from it.
The contrast on the 8890 SXGA screen is the same as the 5680 (not sure about the UXGA).
I am always amazed at how people want to take their laptops onto the plane to watch DVD's. I would have trouble getting enough room in an airplane seat to open up a laptop. Certainly not in cattle class. Give me a book to read any day and they use less batteries too .
Also, believe it or not, I like to actually work on planes. It's a great time to reply to a lot of email and have it ready to send next time you hit a network connection.
At the same time, since this will be the machine I will use pretty much all the time, I needed something good enough for serious gaming, which, since I own several lan gaming centers, you can imagine is a pretty big priority for me Thus, I ended up here and not with some Dell Centrino model.
Also, I believe the wide-viewing angle UXGA LCD on the 5680 has a higher contrast ratio than even the UXGA 16' (which we can't get) that the 8890 offers. I've heard nothing bad at all about the former, in fact - most people here seem to think it's one of the best LCD screens they have ever seen.
