Charging Problems

My fathers old Satellite 230 CX has a charging problem.
Under win the battery charge indaicator shows 98% and never gets higher.
If you want to use it from battery it will last about 1 maybe 1,5 hours but if it drops under 30$ no recovery, it won't charge up again. Sometimes after you close the win even if the battery was full, after a few hours if you start the laptop it shows you that the battery is empty.
Is it some kind of electric problem on the MB? I have two batterys and both of them are good because I tested them on my other Satellite 4200 (I use that one also to charge the empty batterys).

its likely a power supply issue with the mobo since the battery is having such problems as that..... this might mean you need to run a replacement of your mobo in it.

It might sound strange to you, but... what is the "mobo"?

Yeah but do you know what exactly, or your not into electronics?
I guess only a service will tell me that but their charge is incredible.
They wanted to charge me with 400 Euro to replace my Satellites 4200 "mobo" witch after all I'v found on the market with 30 (just have to wit until okt.)

its true that services charge massive sums, i will have to do some checking here to see what i can find out for you tommorow. its late (after 3am) and i need to sleep some time. however tommorow night i should have some more for you.

my first thought was that your battery was not working right, that can happen because as they age they degrade. i think a part of your problem is the motherboard, battery, or the machines connected power supply, or a combination of them. i would say this because the machine works but has no ability to recognise the corrrect amount of battery left discharges the battery, and doesnt charge ot. a possible issue is the connectors on the battery or the internal connections to it since that would explain the lack of it charging, as well as the discharge and the lack of proper battery life estimates.

i would open it up (after you have the manuals) and see if you can see anything out of place or that looks obviously dead. check the connections internally first off and see what you can see.

in the mean time i am going to bed for the night but i will see what i can figure out for you tommorow.

That would be a really great help because I have internet only at my work and I don't really have to much time to search the net.
