Greetings all,
After searching high and low (including these forums), I am not finding the perfect laptop bag for my GIgantic 9880. I am really keen on the Pelican cases, but I am hoping existing owners can shed some light. First, what brought me to this decision:
1. I don't do backpacks. I live in Las Vegas, and as of this writing (at 3am) it is 92f outside. It was 120 today. Backpacks equal sweaty backs, not very comfortable or professional.
2. Shoulder-carried is also out. You've seen this thing, right? I learned my lesson 4 laptops ago (a 14" IBM), don't carry your laptop. WIth accessories, it is just too much.
3. Needless to say, I am pretty attached to a roller case. My previous laptop (15" IBM) fit nicely in a bag I bought at OfficeMax for like $60. I love that bag, but it is not big enough for the new monster.
I have looked at the Targus XL Roller. I actually bought it to hold me over until I find the right case, then I'll ebay it or something. It's not a bad case, but I need a WHOLE lot more accessory room. Besides the brick, I have patch cables, pocket router (Dlink 730AP), small power strip (hotel rooms never have enough outlets), cell charger, PDA charger, Cisco Console Cable, Battery Powered Screwdriver and charger, business cards, small maglight, Bluetooth Mouse, etc, etc. The Targus just isn't enough for all of this. I am willing to use something carry-on sized, as I realize that is pretty much necessary if I expect to carry all of that crap.
I saw this post regarding another 98x0 user who got a Pelican 1520 to work out nicely, but it doesn't roll. I looked to see if Pelican offered it in a wheeled version, but they do not appear to. It seems I have to go all the way up to a 1560 to get something with wheels.
Any existing pelican owners with photos or insight? Save me from reinventing the wheel? I have seen some of the other hard cases that look real nice, but I am just not interested without wheels. Thoughts/suggestions?
Oh, one more thing, I fully expect to also purchase a sleeve of some kind to carry this thing in that will go inside the pelican box. I usually leave my laptop back (sans laptop) locked in my vehicle when I am home, and just carry the laptop itself in, since I don't need any of the accessories (once I buy an extra brick, that is).
