Notebook Memory Upgrade Advice

I'm buying a new notebook, and I plan to save money by getting the basic 256mbs of ram and upgrading the ram myself I have 3 sites I am looking at right now...

UPGRADEMEMORY.com
http://www.upgradememory.com/product...gory_ID=16138&
1GB Memory Upgrade for Dell Inspiron 6000 Description
SKU: 1GB-075770-1 PRICE: 125.00
4ALLMEMORY.COM
http://www.4allmemory.com/search/del...+Inspiron+6000
1GB PC2-3200 (DDR2-400) 139
CRUCIAL.COM
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...+6000&tabid=AM
DDR2 PC2-3200 • CL=3 • UNBUFFERED • NON-ECC • DDR2-400 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64 $140

Upgrade memory gives no information about the ram so for all I know they could be giving me outdated single channel so they don't look like a good choice. They are the cheapest has anyone ever done business with them and what is a website that would have their reviews and ratings.
4 all memory seems like a decent place 139 for 1gb of dual channel pretty good. And Crucial is about the same theirs is 140 I have seen their ad in computer shopper and I think they are the most trustworthy place to go for 1 dollar more I think I will go there instead.

I plan to buy 2 1gig sticks of ram. Right now the notebook I am leaning towards is a Dell Inspiron 6000
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 750 (1.86 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home
15.4 inch UltraSharp WSXGA+ LCD Panel
256MB DDR2 SDRAM 1 Dimm
60GB Hard Drive
24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
64MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON X300 PCI Express x16 Graphics
9-cell Lithium Ion Battery (80 WHr)
No productivity suite - Corel WordPerfect word processor only
From $1,907
With the coupon it prices $1157
.

The college I am going to gives 910 scholarship for me to buy a laptop so its only going to cost me $250 I plan to buy the ram separate around $300 for 2gigs, and an Atheros 802.11 a/b/g card for $50 I will sell the intel card and 256 mb ram dimm for $50 on ebay. So this is a decent deal and if the Dell craps out oh well it was only $250 of my money anyway you get what you pay for. So basically are those good sites for ram upgrades can I get it cheaper or is there a better/more trustworthy site that is my question.

Use the Crucial scanner on their website. It tells you compatible RAM for your Laptop.

Yeah, if you use the Crucial scanner or simply go through the 3 steps to find out compatible ram, it is guaranteed to work, so you won't have to worry about incompatibility issues.

Question:

When you upgrade the ram in your notebook, do you have to remove the factory installed ram completely, or does compatible mean you can add the ram to what you already have?

Those three links I had up there are compatible. Each site has their own compatibility thing and those are the result I was looking for a 1 gig 1 dimm config those were the results and prices. And you may or may not have to remove factory installed ram. If you have 2 dimms in there already you will have to take one out. If you have a 1dimm 256, 512 or 1gig you can keep it in and install another. So what do you have?
