Laptop for university.

I've got 1 year left before uni, so will be needing a laptop because of traveling. I will be using CAD programs a lot. I have been looking around for a while and like the Acer Ferrari 4005WLMi XP-64, i'm all for the carbon fiber. It will have to last for at least 4years, as any other money will have to go towards student fees and other STUDENT necessities . I was going to upgrade the RAM to 2048mb, so can do it with any other Laptops. I am interested in the Ferrari 4000 because of the AMD Turion, as the 64bit seems to be the next move. The only disadvantage seems to be the ATI X700 GPU. Can anbody recommend any other laptops to consider remembering it will be used for CAD work, and would need to last.
Thanks

I dont see how that is a disadvantage. The X700 is the best your going to get with laptops that are as small and portable as the Ferrari 4005. You could get the X800 or 6800 in much larger DTR systems but then your mobility will be limited. So really it depends on how your planning to use your laptop.

It is just that it is 128mb and i would like it to last for a few years. How long would the 128mb stay good for?

well for CAD, especially at the student level, you should be fine until you graduate. the X700 is still a very powerful card even with only 128 MB of vRam

There is a CAD oriented card from ATi... the FireGL4000 or something. It is inside the HP NW8240, you should check that out.

Did you happen to post the same exact thread in the Acer forum?? There's an identical post that should be right at the top...

Yeh sorry didn't realise this one was here, was almost asleep.

Does anybody no how the HP Compaq nw8240 Mobile Workstation, compares to the Acer ferrari 4005? HP uses the OpenGl, and the ferrari the X700.

Cheers
