CD-RW problem

ok so I'm not sure what the deal is, but the damn thing REFUSES to cooperate. I get a successful burn 1 in 10 tries. I have yet ot have a DVD fail but the CDR's are just not working. The disc will get a varied amount through then just die. freeze up. no more. bye bye. where you going? NO WHERE. then the program errors out and nottin happenin.

media's I've tried: Imation, PNY, memorex, unknown name
software I've tried: Roxio 5 platinum, Nero 6, alcohol 120%, windows burning software.

everything does the same problem, no matter if I'm burning a music CD, a data CD, big small or otherwise. it just doesn't work. is there a firmware upgrade or anything this is starting to drive me nuts.

Try cleaning the laser head with a q-tip and a bit of rubbing alcohol... Someone did that and all their CD woes went away.

If that doesn't solve your problem, the drive may be on the fritz. You'll have to contact Sager and see if they could send you another drive.

You have definitely eliminated software, except the possibility of something funky with your XP. I'd suggest perhaps a reinstall which would mostly eliminate that last software possibility.

Assuming its not something simple like the head being dirty, which doesn't seem to match your symptons, then its definitely the drive and RMA time. I'd email SAGER with the problem and see what they have to say. Maybe there is some driver or bios solution they can turn you on to. If not, then they will probably cross-ship with you.

Are you still on Warranty? Also what model do you have or is this even a SAGER? Obviously if it isn't a SAGER than substitute the appropriate brand name.
