hang at WELCOME screen

Thread Starter
when i have my ixps2 home using wireless it and boot the laptop it will hang at the WELCOME screen for anywhere from 10s to 1min then finally get into windows - annoying

but if i boot elsewhere or away from my wireless connection (even if im using a wireless connection somewhere else which it pulls an IP from) it goes to the welcome screen and right to the desktop instantly

so whats so different about my wireless connection that could be causing windows to hang on boot?

what should i look for?

Strange I know sometimes I get an infinite hang on the Welcome screen on some of my burned dvd data discs. I have to remove them from the drive before windows will finish loading. Then I can put it back in and read from the dvd. Maybe something similar is happening to you? If not with a cd/dvd maybe your wireless is having problems connecting before windows starts and it's stalling it out? Are you using the intel ProSet application to control your wireless because I hear that can be a problem on startup.

This happens to me too. It also happens on my dad's old latitude system (which uses Windows 2000, not XP Pro like on my laptop) when it is plugged in to the ethernet cable. The best way I can explain it is like this: when you have a network connection through a router, windows likes to "think" about it while it loads windows. Notice that your computer boots up with the network connection already running, and also notice the time it adds to your startup is about the same amount it takes to connect to a wireless network automatically when you're already in windows.
