I'm trying to find a HDTV tuner for the xps gen 2 if there is such a thing, and if not, what is a usb/pcmia card that would work well, and maybe have DVR capabilities.

HDTV has been out in USB tuners for a long time.
Here in the Tampa area, with an antenna we get 22 digital channels, many of those in HDTV.
If you have Brighthouse cable, you will get a few more, including sports and movies in HDTV using USB HDTV tuner.
I use Sasem OnAir HDTV USB2 box.
This has full HDTV PVR.
You can pause, RW, FF and record live HTDV broadcasts from antenna and Cable.
Also works with Analog antenna and cable.
Many many more features in this year old product.
Older model from other manufacturers also work, but are missing some of the Sasem features.
I also use a Sat USB tuner to get Dish Network programming, but I can't and won't go into that here, except to say Skystar DVB-S FTA, MyTheatre and Yank....
