Inspiron 6000 Battery Life - Page 3

As I've mentioned before (but didn't restate in my last post), it doesn't matter. I've replaced the HD and reinstalled WinXP Home and very few apps (but growing) and it was giving crap life from the get-go. When you're just running wi-fi and Firefox and you're getting 3 hours life, that's ridiculous.

I've DLed i8kfangui, applied the reg fix, rebooted and with only the OS running, it's reading 1:08 (26%) remaining - CPU speed is 698 MHz and load is <3%. Next ideas, please.

Well, it looks like the new battery didn't do much. In off-and-on use, it was hard to tell, but it seemed like it was only getting 3.5-4 hours witha tailwind. Today, while waiting in the ER, I worked 2.5 hours nonstop on a freshly charged battery and at the end, it was saying ~45 mins. left. All I had on was WinDVD and Word, display at half-bright.

I'd like to know what the people claiming 5 hours life are smoking so I can get some for my power-guzzling 6000d.

I think 5 hours is probably a best case situation with very little processing or other activity going on. With my underclocked video card and under volted system at the minimum brightness with no wireless on, this is what my 6000D is showing.

PM 1.6
512mb ram, 1 stick
128mb X300
7.2k rpm 60gb hard drive

bla bla bla nobody cares about the rest

Try going into Device Manager and disable the things you're not using. I keep my CD drive disabled (unless I'm plugged in or want to use it), my IEEE, wired network, media card reader and its controller all disabled.
My settings:
WiFi on
Screen at half
Quickset: optimal battery
PowerPlay on: set to optimal battery (100/120)
0% battery wear level (check with CHC)
I'm running: Firefox and a downloading program.
I'm getting between 3.5-4 hours on a 6 cell right now

Yesterday I had my 8 cell in and I was getting between 4 and 5.5 hours, with screen at lowest (taking notes in a dark room), firefox, notepad, and Steam running.

Specs:
1.86 GHz (using Dynamic Switching in CHC it clocks down to 800MHz when websurfing)
512 RAM
WUXGA
Oh and a wireless mouse, with USB wireless dongle thing

When I first got my new lappy I charged the battery for 24 hours before use... And I am getting around 5 hours of use with all settings @ "stock" after a reformat... The only suggestion I have is to try another battery from Dell...

I have the same setup except 80gig hd, and i get about 4:35 out of my 6 cell.

Well, it appears that I need to chase after Dell because I can't get more than 3:15-3:30 out of this lousy 9-cell with settings as listed previously. Having to go into the DevMan to disable devices and undervolting the system are UNACCEPTABLE!!! I'm not asking for full-brightness, playing DVDs and games and wi-fi all blazing to last forever, but running Word and WinDVD, mostly in pause, and only getting 3-hours is a joke.

i get at least 5hr on 9cell.

never gotten under 4.5hrs with it, and i was doing several things

you people Beotch too much.

i dont see the big deal, but i dont think ive ever gotten over 4.5 hours on my 9cell, maybe not even 4. perhaps the 9cells off ebay just arent good batts. with that said i dont really notice the difference hour, half hour diff isnt going to make me cream my pants.

I think instead of comparing the battery life, you guys should compare the ACTUAL power consumption of your laptop.
Get a battery meter software and you can see how much power your laptop is consuming. By tweaking different options on your laptop you can figure out the most efficient way of running your laptop.
