Toshiba Satellite M45-S355???

Thread Starter
I would like to get some more information about the Toshiba Satellite M45-S355, since it's quite hard to find some decent information on it.

With an Intel Pentium M 750 (1.86 GHz) processor, 1024 MB RAM, 100 GB HHD (5400 rpm) and a DVD Dual Layer Supermultidrive for around $1450, it seems to me like a pretty good deal. However, since the small amount information about it, I'm not sure. Hopefully, you can give me some information!!!

In addition, which notebook do you recommend besides the above mentioned model? Max. price around $1400, 512-1024 MB RAM, Intel Pentium-M (the faster, the better), 80-100 GB HHD, DVD burner (DL).

One last question: are the Toshiba Sattelite M45 laptop compatible in West-Europe?

Thank you so much in advance!

for toshiba you would be looking at an m40 in western europe. personally it is a better machine any way the dedicated video card pwns the integrated card of the m45. the m45 is a pretty good deal but check locally (i assume you are in western europe) to see what the m40 is going for in your area it may end up being a better deal to get it local. depending on your needs you may be able to look at the m50/55 series or even the m60 model. tell us mroe about what you want to do with it and all, as well as any preference you have with screen size and weight.... that should help us more with getting you set up with the right machine.

still the m45 at the price you stated is a good deal and i would say that you wont be unhappy with it or its performance.

how about battery life? that review posted said the toshiba laptop only gave 1.5 hrs maybe 2 at most... that seems odd for a Pentium M processor (supposedly running at only 20 W)

it is about 2-2.5 hours in my experiences with them. the tru-brite screen and the 6600 suck back the power pretty hard. the good news is that the batteries recharge fast though. also i believe (although i have not used it) that there is a high capacity battery available so that should help. the machine is really a nice one and if worst came to it you could always get a second battery. also many universities (a prime target of the m40/45) are now offering more in the way of power outlets so that battery life is not as critical an issue, planes have laptop plug ins (at least they do in on the ones that i fly) and there are sc adaptors for the car. so really you should be able to keep your baby plugged in alot and not need insane battery life anyway.

My model would not have the 6600... hopefully the true bright itself will allow for at least 2 hours...

There was a thread somewhere a while back where a tech guy commented that the trubright is actually film that goes on top of the matte LCD and reangles the liight coming out of the screen so that it appears brighter. This film does not use any electricity, so trubright screens should get the same battery life as matte ones. I still only have my old Tecra 8100, so I don't have any way of testing it, but it sounded convincing to me. The dedicated GPU's like the 6600 take a good chunk of battery life, so hopefully just getting the integrated card should get you well over the 2hr mark. I'm sure if you make sure to turn the wireless off when you are not using it and turn down the screen brightness you'll get even better.
