P4 Extreme Edition

Thread Starter
I see that AW desktops are now offering the P4 extreme edition, and I was wondering if this will be an added option for the 5680, 8890, or 4780.

Thanks all.

They are not even out yet in mass production according to Intel. When they are, you'll probably see them in stock @ Newegg and listed on Pricewatch. Anywhere you see it able to be ordered is pre-ordering only as Intel hasn't shipped their first wave of CPUs (which they always charge a huge premium to get in on their first shipment). I'm not even sure they've shipped testing units for manufacturers to try out at this point. We'll *hopefully* see them available with Sagers as soon as Intel starts cranking them out.

News Flash:

Alienware offer magic pixey dust. In a bold move today Alienware announced the inclusion of magic pixey dust as an option for the 51m. The dust when sprinkled on the keyboard of the laptop will automatically solve any issue be it hardware or software.

</sarcasm>

You have to love AW, give them credit for using any gimmick they can to try boost sales. One might say they should perhaps concentrate on shipping options currently available on time rather than offering stuff that isnt even out yet. If you are desperate to get a P4EE in yoru sager then just wait for them to be released - go out - buy one - install it yourself.

Did you see the bit about the FX 5950 only available at AW? They ad on their site suggesting that.

Hah! I've got an invisible, weightless Cray laptop that runs forever on air. But you have to have an IQ of at least 160 and possess another really large dimension (30 cm minimum) or you won't know its even there. Price - $3500 cash, non-refundable (especially if you exagerrated anything).

Do you guys think this is a worthwhile upgrade at all if you've got a normal P4 3.2ghz, or is the performance going to be fairly insignifigant unless you're a benchmark queen?
Considering, I don't think the performance boost would be much, BUT, if you look at the Pentium M chips running at 1.7Ghz that perform like their 2.4Ghz Pentium 4 counterparts, well, maybe...the real test is to wait for benchmarks.

In terms of gaming performance, well the lag is generally on the video card still.

Why would anyone here exagerrate any dimensions....

Some people are just nearsighted or farsighted.

From what I can see from some benchmarks that snuck out on the web. The performance increase is not huge - somethings get a marked boost, but for games etc (and lets face it thats what most of us care about) its maybe a few FPS boost at most.

Here's two I found, have some information about the Extreme Edition.

Looks like if you really want performance though, you should go with the Athlon 64. Since thats not an option in Sagers, P4EE looks like will help a little, maybe not worth the extra money to most though.

For the 5,863,284th time: there is no telling if the P4EE's power and cooling requirements will be compatible with what today's laptops are able to provide. So even when the chips do finally come out - which is in the future, not today - there is no guarantee it will be physically possible to run them in Sager laptops. Yes, they'll probably work, but no one can make any promises right now.

To get the P4EE into Sagers, first Intel has to release those testing units to manufacturers, including Clevo. Then Clevo has to perform exhaustive tests of the chips in the laptops to ensure the P4EE is compatible with the power and cooling systems in those laptops - and possibly make necessary modifications to those systems. Or even decide the necessary modifications would be too extensive and declare the P4EE incomaptible, although that possibility seems remote.

Anyways, the process could take a while, so don't hold your breath.

The VooDoo M:600 is now offered with the P4EE

Yah, did you check the price; +$8XX.XX and their turn-around time is a minimum of 31 days (the chips will be out by then). You pay for a paint job like it or not, and they use 15 in UXGA. They do have excellent customer satisfaction ratings almost as good as PCT.

Actually the premium is $580 over a regular 3.2 P4 HT and I would pay that premium on an 8890 to get it, which was my point to Sager/PCTorque etc.
