My XPS 2 came in today and for some reason I cannot set the resolution past 1600 x 1200 in Doom 3 Game Settings. I updated the Video drivers to the latest. Any Answers?

Here's the note on setting widescreen resolution in Doom 3 (from the link above):
Quote:
Note: To display Doom 3 in Widescreen mode, or in fact at any other custom resolution, you will need to use the r_mode -1 command and then enter the screen height and width in the r_customheight and r_customwidth settings. E.g. r_customwidth 1280 r_customheight 720 will give the correct aspect ratio for widescreen diplays (16:9). See the Advanced Tweaking section for more details.

I bring up the Control panel and type
r_mode -1 <enter>
r_customerwidth 1920 <enter>
r_customerheight 1200 <enter>

Nothing seems to change. Am I entering it wrong?

well can you notice any streching in game? The resolution wont show up in the options menu and if you hit apply while in the options screen youll have to reset the resolution to widescreen as it goes to whatever resolution is in the options when changes are made.

I'm playing it at 1440x900 and it looks a little funky on the edges, but not bad. It defintely is a wider FOV when comparing it with my CRT (1600x1200), but the edges are still a little skewed.

You really have to read that whole section of the guide. All the answers are there. (those lines need to be added to a config file, but there's a bit to learn first.) The guide is great, and if you start at the beging and read the whole thing, you'll have the ass-kickingest Doom 3 config in town.

We all hate to RTFM, but if you want to get the most out of Doom 3 on your new machine, it's worth the time to read it.

You're not prefixing them with the SET command, also, its just CUSTOM not customER. Try these instructions.

Code:
set r_mode -1
set r_customheight 1200
set r_customwidth 1920
set r_aspectratio 2
vid_restart

FYI, for anygame that lets you set the aspect ratio, the aspect ratio on your xps2 laptop screen is 16:10, not 16:9.

FYI2, if you are or will be playing the Resurrection of Evil addon, you'll need to retype the above commands for it as well.

It's even better to just add those lines to the AutoExec.cfg file in C:/Program Files/Doom3/base so it automatically does that. Also, many video changes require the vid_restart command to take affect, if you are entering them in game.

set com_allowConsole "1" //tilde key only for console *
seta r_customHeight "1200"
seta r_customWidth "1920"
seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_aspectRatio "2"
open up notepad, copy and paste this and save the file as autoexec.cfg. Please sure your computer is not hiding the .txt extension and thus the save file is actually autoexec.cfg and not autoexec.cfg.txt. Also please make sure you have atleast updated Doom to version 1.01 or higher. The aspectratio command does not work in the original version and you will never get the correct FOV.

But whatever you do, DON'T READ THE GUIDE I posted a link to. If you do, you'll end up with a better looking game and faster frame rates. For the love of God, don't read it!

I made the mistake of crossing to the dark side and tapping into my evil stores of patience and effort. And what did I end up having to show for the 20 minutes I wasted? Nothing but hours and hours of Doom 3 looking better and running smoother than any default settings could render! I'm so ashamed.
