got a link to that mobile meter? i'd like to give it a whirl while waiting for Henrik's ;p

hey henrik, I would be more than willing to pay upwards of $30 for a program of th nature you had hoped to have made before. If you could get a couple hundred people to buy it, i am sure you will have no problem getting a new laptop. But then again that adds a lot of extra stress to your already busy life. It is most likely not worth it. You gotta live to hav fun, not live to work. Oh well, glad to see you're back.

I have sent PM to 9 ppl that wanted to beta test the new utility. If anyone logged in right now want to see if it works on their computer just PM me and I will give you the download location.

Weird, havent got any PM from you, ryanniedz. Could you please tell me your keyboard bios version then I could look into it.

Is this beta testing only for the 8890?

I just bought a 8790 and would gladly be a beta tester.

Well, I might as well post the link here. The app can be downloaded here. Its a very small app that enables you to set full fan speed when you want to. It needs no driver, just the exe and dll file thats included in the zip file. Of course you try this completely on your own risk, I cant stress that enough.

I had hoped for that it would work straight out of box, on all 5xxx and 8xxx anyway. On the other hand, maybe it only works on 5660's with keyboard bios 1.00.17 like mine. In that case I have to get a copy of your keyboard bioses to check for some values in order to get it to work.

Can confirm the above utility does not function on my particular NP8890V, at least "out of the box". The application starts, can see the "on" and "off" buttons; however, selecting either ("on" or "off") yields full processor utilization, coupled with a "non-responsive" application.

If you require such, I can post this particular board's bios details later.

Thank you for your efforts. Wish I could report better findings.

I downloaded your program to try on my 8790, it kinda works... it will kick on the fan to my power brick, but not the other fans... it also locks up after I click the ON button and I have to do an end-task to shut it off again.

I would love a program the lets me run the fans at full throttle when I want to.. it would be nice for gaming.

If someone could tell me how to get a copy of my keyboard bios, I will post it.

For those that want to underclock or overclock the cpu on the 8790, this does work.

Cool! Have you tested battery life on a underclocked 8790?

Can you set the program to automatically run the proc at normal speed when on AC but when its on battery automatically downclock it to conserve battery?

OH... and link does not work...

The keyboard bios version is shown very quickly when you boot up your computer, you can use the pause-key to pause so you have time to read it. There is two lines of interest, one shows the system bios version and the other shows the keyboard bios version. Both kinds of bioses can be downloaded from some clevo clones resellers, like for instance eurocom.

I have looked into the subject of controlling fan speeds on different sagers even further. Unfortunately the bioses differs more than I had hoped for. It seems that the utility at the moment only works for 5660's. I am right now checking the 5680 and 8890 bioses and I plan for making the utility support them.

Is there anyway to monitor the GPU temp? When I watch the CPU temp in Mobmeter while gaming, it never seems to go above 55C. However I still get crashes that seem to be GPU shutdowns or heat-related problems.

I have now made some changes in the application. There is a combobox where you select what sager model you use. This I had to do since there are different methods to use in order to set max fan speed on the different models. Now it is possible that it works for 5660/5670/5680's. It would be great if someone with a 5680, and balls enough to try it, would contact me. If you are interested, please PM me so we can communicate via icq or msn messenger to get it to work properly. Oh, I also changed so if it doesnt work then it doesnt hang, you just get an errorcode in return.

I have read something somewhere that some radeons 9600 should have an internal temp sensor. Well, once again, I dont have a 5680, if I had it I would for sure check it out.

While I do not have any model NP56xx, I do own an NP8890 and would be more than happy to offer any assistance I could in regard to your development of this utility.

Am posting the system bios and keyboard firmware revision, in case these are at all important in your endeavor :

Bios : V122 1.00.09-T1
KBC/EC Firmware Revision : 1.00.01
