Here comes an update of the status on this little project. I have been disassembling and studied the keyboard bios for 8886/7 for some time now and it has been interesting as usual. This keyboard bios has a completely different layout than the others I went through. Unfortunately there seems to be no way to control the fans via the debug ports. The only thing you can do is to play around with all LEDs on your 'puter. I could write a small app for you to set every possible configuration softwarewise, but this is not as fun as fan controlling. Of course, if I had a 8887 myself I had modified the keyboard bios in order to enable fancontrolling but thats another story. So I'm sorry to say, thats a no-go for 8886/7. I am however confident in making it work for the 8890. I still have to go through the 4xxx and 8790's bioses but anyway it will most probably work for at least all 56xx and the 8890.

I can confirm that this app works perfectly on a 5670.

Now just to test an app that gives full manual control over fans. =P

After I have finished the 8890 I will look into 4xxx series, do you volunteer to beta test?

Henrik really is a bit of a GURU on this kind of stuff. Thanks for your efforts on this mate. People please keep in mind that he does this out of the goodness of his heart, demands like....

"When will we see this"
and
"Gees man get the friggin lead out and code this already"

Are not cool.

Ya, no joke Bratag. It's not like he's doing this to make money. He's doing it because he want's to help.

Thanks for all your hard work and awsome programs Henrik. Set you own pace, don't let anyone rush you.

Test Results for MaxFan

Sager 5680
Bios Version: 1.00.07 T3
Keybpard Firmware: 1.00.04

App launched fine, ran under "5680" setting, but when I ran the "Max" button I got a errorcode of "2111". When I ran "Auto" button I got a errorcode of "2011"

I'm going to try to find some different updates for the keyboard firmware and try it again.

Ps. Just for giggles, I tried the "5670" and "5660" setting and got errorcodes with thise aswell.

Henrik you really are awesome. Someone mentioned this earlier, but I think you should post a paypal link - I know I would give you some dough for a working 8890 fan control (max/auto is good enough for me!) program. Maynot get you a new laptop but maybe some dvds or something

If it's not too much trouble, are there any chances of getting the source code too?

Maybe I need to look at the other threads again, but I thought it was also decided that enabling PAT wasn't possible.

< wishes he knew assembly now too >

Call me selfish if you want to, I keep the code for myself. And after all, I dont think it would be useul to you anyway. I've made some small changes to the app, if anyone with 5680 could try it out, it would be great.

Bah! Selfish!

Igg, I would like that also. I'm now putting this utility on hold until someone with a 5680 are willing to try it out and provide me with feedback. After all, I have better things to do than make this app for you people Its verified that it works on 5660 and 5670, I am myself confident that it works on the 5680, except for some very small details. I am also confident that it cant harm your computer in any way.

Download the app HERE

the max fan app, lets say I'm sitting here doing nothing(IRC, web browsing) will the fans be at the max? or bios defaults? is it selectable before you start? eg. I know I'm gonna do a long spade of gaming(Unreal Tournament 2004) I want the fans running at max.

can this be done?

I haven't installed it yet(Sager 5680)
uninstallation possible?
